Some good posts here. Villa released 8 players and now need to replace those as well as Tammy Abraham, their top scorer, who won't be returning on loan. We've released 1 player and have already signed Roberts. We look to be close to signing Charlie Gilmour at DM, also on a free transfer, leaving a sizeable budget for the few other signings we need while also extending contracts of present players. With some good options available, all seems to be progressing well.
This is from Wikipedia: "Although, in England, transfers between clubs in the same league can take place as soon as the last competitive fixtures for the season have been played, many transfers will not be completed until 1 July because many players' contracts expire on 30 June." I don't know why deals wouldn't be announced til then but maybe SW is waiting to tell us about signing out-of-contract players from the continent.?
That may well be the case, CS, as SW said he hoped to have most of his signings before the pre-season starts. If so, we could well be announcing new players in two weeks time.
I'm guessing Bruce didn't get many takers on the £7m price tag and came back with a more realistic number
The transfer windows for Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga only open on 1st July. I presume pre-contract agreements can be entered into before then, but whether the club would want to announce those is debatable. My guess is that our new signings are all tied up and the focus meanwhile is getting our current players on the right contracts.
Nice one Robbie. This summer window has got very complicated with all of the different dates. While Villa are spending millions it could well be that SW has things tied up nicely within our modest budget.
I suspect it's a little of both. Certainly expect 1-2 new signings are nearly over the line, or waiting on formalities. Like Webber said in his interview, equally he's prepared to wait on some players because he knows our club have done the groundwork and have their options sorted. Equally though, these contracts probably had to be sorted earlier to maintain the ethos in the club. You can't bring new players in on Prem wages whilst the promotion squad have comparatively smaller wages, even if you intend to reward that squad down the line. You'll keep the squad much happier if you attend to their needs first, then bring players in to match the new normal.
Not sure an 18 year old with no first team appearances would be sufficient as number 2 to Pukki if he gets suspenjured , pretty sure he will go out on loan in lg1 or a poor Championship club There is something to be said with putting faith in young players but that's a huge step up and a huge risk on our Premier league survival hopes.
So, Ben's value has doubled in just a few weeks - https://tbrfootball.com/tottenham-s...odfrey-as-he-moves-close-to-new-norwich-deal/.
I agree. If Rhodes does sign, Idah would offer another option that Rhodes and Srbeny don't. None of us saw Aarons coming straight into the team last season and Idah could make a good impact sub option, even in the PL. DF wants our players to fit his system and not many League One or lower Championship teams play our way. If he does go on loan it's more likely to be in the Netherlands like Cantwell or another European club.
