Actually think this is the wrong move. Much as I love ol' Bertie, I think either he should go or Matty should get his head down and turf Bertie out of his place.
Probably depends quite a lot on what formation Ralph wants us to play going forward. In the system we played with Ralph last season a quick attacking winger was important for how we wanted to play. I'm not sure Bertrand will be drawing interest from any clubs bigger than us so presumably he'll be happy to stay here now. The Ralphalotion may have changed things for him too. Targett presumably wants to play first team football now. He got it at Fulham in the Championship and excelled and then played a bit part here and did okay considering he was playing wingaback and he doesn't really have the attributes for it compared to standard LB. Interesting to see what happens because presumably we'll be looking for another RB too as risky just having Valery there.
Depends what else is on offer. If a club that will guarantee first team premier league football come in fo rhim he may prefer that. As it stands I would rather be back up at liverpool/arsenal on big money than at Saints.
Indeed. I get the logic of Targett not wanting to go from being a Saints back-up to being, say, a Watford or Newcastle back-up. But we're talking about Liverpool. Going from being a Saints back-up to being a Liverpool back-up is an upgrade for him, in more ways than one.
Oh come on! That's your hatred of Liverpool speaking there. Back up at Saints or back up at Liverpool? Hmmm, tough one that.
No way a player is ever gonna think, "Ah, I'm not really good enough to play for them." All it would take is an injury to Robertson, Targett to play a few good games, and suddenly he is more famous than any other Saints player.
... and he can lead the “I didn’t do anything” celebrations when they win something. Twatbeard can teach him the moves.
What the hell is the fascination with Targett from Liverpool and Arsenal? I understand Villa and Fulham looking but the big boys? Really?
Unless you are the Chairman of Fulham and in that case, get your cheque book out quickly before it’s too late!!
Tactics to push up the price to say £15m? The story made me laugh thinking Matt playing in the Champions League final whilst a lot of Saints fans love to pick on him as their abuse focus If we sell poor McCarthy who is the next player to be the focus for unwarranted abuse?
I'm not keen on scapegoating players but we do have a few candidates due to apparent lack of application or ability. Not really their fault the club chose to waste high wages on such players, would you turn down a thumping pay rise?
https://newcastle.vitalfootball.co....ver-possible-swoop-for-6-3m-rated-ace-report/ Another rumour for you suggesting Targett is a target for Newcastle as well. If the whole world is after Matty perhaps we should keep him If he leaves, it would be better for the player that he goes where he can get a chance to continue his development...apart from the money why go where he won't play.
Whilst i find it frustrating, it is part and parcel of the game, sadly. On a positive note, we’ve had some fantastic ‘abused’ players in the past. My earlier memory of boo boys was Jimmy Melia. I could not understand why fans booed their own players but he was a solid and consistent performer. Just not a flair player. We also had the wonderful Bobby Stokes - 2 goals on his debut - but brought the groans out more often than not. After the cup win bus tour, he was handed the mic and all he said was - sorry guys you’ve got to put up with me for another year. The best of all though was Frannie Benali. Saints through and through he suffered a lot of abuse in his career but effort made up for lack of timing on his tackles and of course he’s been elevated to legend status in his retirement. All top guys! Maybe it’s a back handed compliment to be picked out?
