    Who remembers Jeff Hemmerman.

He was in the side the first year I started supporting the club.

Was top scorer that season but sadly done his knee last away game at Bristol Rovers.

Made a failed attempt at a comeback and returned as a physio a few years later.

Remember in the dark days in the lower leagues the atmosphere was dead until a player got injured and jeff came on to chorus of the song we used to sing for him.

We were so useless that the crowd actually used to boo when an injured player got up without needing treatment as it meant Jeff not coming on.

Remember seeing him on MOTD with the highlights of the infamous away game at Porsmouth when their famous clock came down. I would have loved to have been at that game. Did anyone go to that game? I was too young. Made my away debut the next season in a 3-2 defeat to Swansea.

    Oh yes...............what a day <ok>

"Hemmerman, Hemmerman, Jeffrey Hemmernan, when he gets the ball he scores a goal, Jefferey Hemmerman"

The days of Bob Grogan and the Bennett brothers if I remember rightly <ok>

We could do with Dave Bennett in our current line up Proph.

Just the type of player we need out wide.

I was on one of the "soccer specials" got to the station alive, a police presence on the train.............with an incontinent police dog..............it stank to high heaven, we kept trying to stick our heads out of the window because of the stench, and the OB kept threatening to nick us for breaching BR rules, but none of them cleaned the mess up, a load of us got off in Newport, (the first stop) and went for a few sherberts,,,,,,,,,,,I remember it kicked off with a bunch of lads from St Julians Rugby Club in a pub near the station, mayhem.........anyone else on that train?

    Proph,

I went on the train but our journey home was a more sedate affair. Apart from the clock incident and the result it was a crap trip really. When we got there about 11.30 we were escorted straight to the ground.

Got the mini bus righted and got home in it, without mentioning the drivers name (infamous), he took the mini bus back to the rental yard and vandalised all the other mini buses in there, so they couldnt point the finger at him. Oh yes that was the one and only time we let him drive. On another trip we stopped in a pub just outside of Yate, there was a big sign on the window, NO WELSH, that ended in tears for that particular landlord...:emoticon-0100-smile

It was carnage and not a game for the feint hearted. Lukcily I was in the home grandstand as the away section had sold out and we blagged it. All I saw wewe golf balls and debris flying between the two sets of fans the whole game.

The game was average; could have gone either way but it was our keeper Eric Steele (now Man Utds g-k coach) who pulled off a Gordan banks save to earn a point.

As for the clock - well its folklore now.

Your 1st away game - was at the one when we were 2 up, Gibbins missed a one on one and then Dean Saunders put us to the sword. Think it was.
