after the non-intervention by the assistant on saturday i have come to the conclusion that they only act if the ref looks enquiringly in their direction, otherwise they are totally gutless and afraid to take responsibility on their shoulders. i remember our match at huddersfield, i was in line with the touchline and in the first half the assistant did not even award throw in decisions without first checking which way the ref was giving it.
They were put on this earth to wind us up with there total incompidence. Thats all i can come up with, oh and to keep the grass down a bit down the edges ? & to NOT stop a ball that comes within a centimeter of them? Thats me out of reasons!
The Assistant had no chance of seeing that elbow incident through a crowd of players, I don't think they are issued with x-ray specs! I agree though some Assistant ref's are completely incompetent but that's life!
We seem to have a very British mentality on here, when things are going our way its pretty quiet but when we have something to moan about we are all on here in numbers sticking our two cents in.....
We seem to have a very British mentality - sticking our two cents in..... Surely a contradiction in terms SN23 ? ..................
Remember when i gave up playing, took my referees course and passed. To start with you only has club linesmen, i always said" if you see something that i dont, stick your flag up and i'll come to you". For county cup games i only ever did the line, my only instructions from the ref was usually "just give the offsides, leave everything else up to me". Dont think things have changed much.
Surely they are there to swear at and deflect the incompetance of your own team when things don't go well. This stops people taking AK47's into football grounds and shooting their team. Blame it on the Lino is the best calming thing the FA can come up with. That's when we aren't blaming the Ref of course.
