    Why is he not starting?

Not fit or you think pardew rates him more as a impact?

I know he started in the cup but i think he deserves a shot at the PL

    thoughts?

Patience is the key but I do think he now needs to start away in Benni's role while he regains fitness. I think Pardew is just proctecting a guy who has not play much football in the last 12-18 months, is lightweight (he needs Malouda type strenthening), and he is still adapting to the pace of the game and language. I just think Pardew is being sensible to ensure he doesn't ask too much too soon. You have to protect them a bit but I think its time given Shola's inability to do anything worthwhile.

Agree. He rushed Ben Arfa back and doesn't want to make the same mistake again.

Really don't like the idea of Obertan on the wing v Villa, if anything he needs to play in the centre behind a striker. If N'Zogbia plays on Villa's left wing he'll tear up Obertan and Simpson.

I agree. We need to put Jonas on the wing that N'Zogbia is playing on. Marveaux on the other wing and Obertan down the middle with Best up front.

Obertan was one of our best players on the right wing????? ASimpson also it was Jonas and Raylor that I'm worried about.

Get Santon an Marveuax involved in my opinion

Sylvain Marveaux is our most talented winger and Davide Santon is lightyears ahead of Simo and Raylor so why the 2 started on the bench is beyond me. Shola Ameobi makes the most optimistic Toon fan nervous and Pardew needs to stop stalling the progress of exciting prospects to accommodate ineffective mediocre players.

the thing with Sylvain Marveaux is he's played AM more than he's played the wings in France so he could fill the ben arfa role till he's fit

i'd play this team at present maybe jig it around up front

    krul
    simmo,saylor,colo,santon
    ober,cabaye,tiote,jonas
    ...........marv
    ............best/ba

Marv showed some class when he came on. He'd fit right into a top team imo.

Barely played in 9 months for a start. And he's had chances, he'll get more.

I'd like Marveaux to start in the hole v Villa. More stable away from home to have a 5 man midfield and we get to see him in a position that could suit him perfectly, rotating with Jonas as well.

ffs I think we will be fine if Raylor and Ameobi are dropped. I know Raylor scored passed Sunderland but he didn't score it from a left back position.

No room for sentiment I'm afraid

And for the last 2 weeks he's been the best thing since sliced bread. Was pointless playing him yesterday.

I know what you mean but I'm glad we did in a way. Would have been a baptism of fire for Santon against SWP. He was in sparkling form. Santon is still settling, has had no time with new teammates because of the international break and would have lingual problems to overcome. Might turn out to be a blessing and Simpson's performance makes it easier to drop Raylor while maintaining his morale. We might need him again.

In Pardew's interview he said "maybe I should have helped my central midfielder out." Which i translate to mean, "I should've had a 5 man midfield"

So, hopefully, just HOPEFULLY, he's learnt his lesson and this will be the midfield

    --------Tiote----Cabaye----
    Obertan-----Marv-----Jonas

Certainly does and I think being young he'll pick it up quickly. Don't know if he already speaks a little? I think Santon is going to be the defensive PL signing of the season. I think he'll settle quickly, he's exciting and attacking. But typically being Italian from the Milan region, he knows the art of defending. When we get a natural left sided player and he shifts over, I think his level will rise again. I'm genuinely excited about this lad and think some of our fans might not realised what we've got. Put it this way, if Mancini had went for him I would not have been surprised.
