Morning all. Sunny intervals and warmish describes our weather this morning. Another public holiday today which throws anyone wanting to go to the shops into a bit of confusion. The small shops are closed, but the large ones are open with different hours to normal. Some are just open for the morning, others open all day but finish earlier than normal, while others take a couple of hours off in the middle of the day. I have no intention of shopping today, but in the past have travelled some distance to get something unusual, only to find a notice on the shop door saying they are closed for the day for an exceptional reason.

Bring back Sunday all day and Wednesday Half day closing in the [emoji636]!

That is quite a thought. My BIL has a shop, and felt he had to follow the trend of not having a half day closure. He found out over a year or more, that despite the extra opening hours, his footfall and receipts didn't alter at all. It actually cost him with having to provide staff, heating and lighting. It seems that people go shopping when the shops are open, and prepare for the times that they are not. Time to give some more family time.

Morning all. Damp, but mild describes the weather, and I am supposed to be going on a picnic. It does have a covered area so not too bad, and it will help me to converse in French. These gatherings can be fun, but better weather helps.
 
About twenty years ago I built myself a garden storage box to hold all of the empty flower pots we accumulated. It had a back rest so that you could use it as a seat for two as well as hold the pots. It travelled to France and several people liked it. Over the years it has some more coats of paint a new lid, and a few additional screws. In the storm we had the other night a heavy door I was storing was blown onto it and it looked in a bit of a sorry state. On closer inspection I realised that too much rot had finally set in, and a few additional screws would not be enough. Sadly it was time for it to go, and yet it is still full of flower pots. Build a new one was my first thought, but to make something as sturdy was horribly expensive. Looking on the internet I found some similar sized ones, not as attractive as mine was when new, but half the price. If it was going to be in the house I would have built a new one, but for something that is only going to be outside with empty pots in it makes little sense to spend more than I need to. So my handiwork has to go, and I will not enjoy breaking it up, but everything eventually gives out.
 
Have a 7-03 train to Taunton in the morning for the Australia Pakistan game. Suspect I won't be seeing much cricket again <grr>
