Got to be cuco... he was seen as such a joke figure beforehand. Cemented cult hero status because it was so unexpected.
The Saturday night at the 2012 London Olympics when Greg Rutherford, Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah won gold!! I have never witnessed a stadium meltdown like that before or since, but it did that night. It surpassed anything I have ever experienced in football or any other sport.
The thread is titled "Favourite Event of the Last Decade." That night for me beats every other sporting moment. If it relates to SFC, then it is the 1-0 victory against West Ham in the Championship promotion season as I was there that night. And SFC looked every inch a good PL team in the making that night.
I'm staying in the Saints box, but two events not mentioned. No great surprise, but I loved Lallana's goal at Hartlepool on a horrible Tuesday night. A sizeable section of their fans applauded what was a superb strike, and I was on free drinks all night in the hotel bar - did anyone realise that there are Hartlepool fans who don't live there? - as if I was his uncle or something. Just mad. The second is that afternoon in Nottingham when our fans were so brilliantly funny in the face of impending oblivion. As someone who simply loves to beat Liverpool, it is a straight fight between Long's goal and the the 3-2. Come on, Ralph. Top those moments!
Twatbeards solo goal against Hull was a thing of beauty as well. And here is a crap YouTube version of it.
Same as you mate, 13. Very hard to pick one highlight, but the raw emotion of Long’s goal on a freezing cold night at Anfield will stay with me forever. I can still hear the Saints fans singing “La la la lalalalaa, Shane Long...” on our way out of the ground, as the PA very helpfully played “Hey Jude”. And thinking about that has reminded me how all the scousers I spoke to on my way to the train station next morning, were brilliant about it. I went in a newsagent to but a copy of every single newspaper, and some guy who turned out to be a Pool fan says “how about them Saints, eh laa?” Feel a bit better about them winning the PL now.
You are very privileged to have witnessed that night mate. Wouldn’t swap it for any of my top 10 Saints moments though.
Just checked, yeah he another one that match too, happy days.... https://www.worldfootball.net/report/premier-league-2014-2015-southampton-fc-aston-villa/
Only a slight chance that Shane's will too, would take a Beckham type effort from the K/O to do it I reckon.
Shane's goal is relatively slow compared to the world record. It's around 3 and a half seconds by some Uruguayan if memory serves.
