Celtic found out 2 years ago and started an investigation.

Took Southampton 3 years and they're getting a round of applause.

Celtic found out 30 years ago and had an investigation and found the beasts to be victims of scurrilous accusations.

There is no correlation between how Southampton have acted and how Celtic have.

Celtic found out in the 90s about what happened with Torbett at Celtic Boys Club. A victim told the Celtic Football Club manager and he immediately called the police.

Thats how its done. If only other clubs did the same (@Rangers)

Southampton, once they were informed, carried out a 3 year investigation then acted.

Celtic, once informed, began a currently on going investigation that is only 2 years old.

Celtic have mirrored Southampton so far.

And do you know the background of the case? Like how long ago the first accusations were made?

Found out in the 90s eh!

And yet there was an article in the Celtic view in 1986 that said Celtic had investigated claims of abuse and had found they were scurrilous accusations.

Mindfail train just keeps keeping on.

30 years ago, there were whispers, allegations. Very similar indeed to the CBC abuse.

Rumours about Higgins's activities were certainly circulating by the late 1980s, though. Dave Merrington, who was youth team manager and would later manage the first team, recalled being "troubled and disturbed" when he heard banter among players in a minibus.
"I realised they were talking about Bob," he said. "Unfortunately, the comments were of a sexual nature that I wasn't happy about."

He raised the matter at a staff meeting and was told it would be brought to the attention of the board. Later, he was told he should be the one to raise the issue with Higgins, which he did at a meeting in the players' lounge at The Dell. "He jumped up, got extremely annoyed and said: 'I'll sue anyone who says anything about me,'" Mr Merrington said. "I tried to cool him down but he got extremely annoyed. He stormed out. Within a week or a fortnight he had resigned, as I understand it, and left the club."

Allegations against Higgins were aired again in January 1997 in a Channel 4 documentary. After the Dispatches programme, both Hampshire and Southampton social services consulted police and wrote to local youth organisations expressing concern about him coaching boys.

A joint letter from the departments, unearthed by the BBC through a Freedom of Information request, urged parents to "make an informed choice about his contact with your child/ren". Dr John Beer, the head of Southampton Social Services at the time, said he received several replies from parents criticising him for impugning Higgins's good character.

"That is the standard way that we learn that *****philes operated," he said.

The safest way for them is to groom parents and figures who have status in the community, so if the young person made any allegations they were likely to be disbelieved."

"Concerns were voiced in the 80s about boys being taken out socially when no matches were scheduled, arriving home late, and being taken away to tournaments that did not exist."

Does that sound like complaints of buggery?

Says he left Southampton in 1989 and stood trial in the early 90s but was acquitted. No mention of why he was arrested and if Southampton reported him to the police. If they knew and didn't then shame on them.

They do seem to be going about things the right way now though.

As for being very similar to what happened at Celtic, hardly.

That was one guy. That can happen anywhere. There have been 7 who have been convicted with links to Celtic ffs.
