BBC News - Michael Gove: Cocaine 'mistake' a 'deep regret'

Gove, Hunt, Stewart and Co. All very sorry they accidentally took something naughty.. I am sure the grey rinses will forgive them.. [emoji8]

PS I wonder who had the dirt on him which led him to cough up at this very time?? [emoji848]

Never thought I would ever be in the position of actually defending some Tory MPs - but here goes: Apparently Michael Gove has confessed to once having been a social user of cocaine. This has well and truly opened up the floodgates - subsequently it has emerged that 3 other leadership candidates have come clean about their past <laugh> Dominic Raab has also confessed to having smoked cannabis. Jeremy Hunt has followed suit and confessed to drinking a cannabis lassi whilst backpacking through India - and, apparently, Rory Stewart smoked opium at a wedding in Iran. Which begs the question - who was/is the party dealer <laugh> There was a spate of these confessions a while back with some Labour MPs admitting that they ''tried it once but didn't like it'' or ''Didn't know what it was at the time'' <doh> Apparently Tony Blair once threw a pot of paint at the American embassy ! A lot of us here went the central route through the 70s and know what it was like - we all did these things, and, bearing in mind the age of politicians and their social origins, plus University life in those days - then most of them did to. Why do they have to ''own up'' about such things now ? The truth is that our parliament is full of ex junkies (probably more so than amongst the population as a whole) but I don't care.

  8. It's bloody silly isn't it? We're all entitled to a past - if anything it makes them a bit more human.

Yes.. It is all about the public image, they are supposed to be squeaky clean...
Looks like some one was going to expose Gove, so he had to come out with it.
I agree that it should not matter one bit...
And most people of a certain age will have had a puff a pill or a sniff.
I guess the Cocaine issue is that it is a killer in more ways than one...

Have you ever studied the Middle East in depth? Why do you think we are in bed with the Saudi mass murderers and the Israelis.. Yet demonise poor Palestinian in their little enclave.
It deeply saddens me that people choose to remain ignorant over man's inhumanity to man....
    Perhaps more than anything...

I think he did it for a bet when he was in that toffs club...
But as a society we are very hypocritical with the our media seeking to expose and shame any figure who is not 'squeaky clean'...

The problem is that our media is very large, with armies of freelance journalists all looking for the next story (and the next pay cheque). The temptation to 'bring down' public figures with stories about sexual misdemeanours, bad treatment of employees, drug experiments (it doesn't really matter what), or some kind of 'like' which they gave on facebook once, is really too great. Stories gained from ex mistresses always go down well in the UK. In France they would not have the same consequences, and in Russia it would be expected behaviour.

.. Coupled with the expectation that MPs are required to follow the party whip and tautological party policies.. All the ingredients for hypocrisy..

  17. They can make fortunes out of companies trading in arms, tobacco, gambling, people trafficking and God knows what and nobody bats an eyelid. If they watch a bit of porn or smoke dope they're morally bankrupt. It's madness.

You need to study the Greek chap's comments, much critical of the shenanigans of the eurocrats.

Latest Poll: Tories still lagging behind. Remain still ahead of Leave. Conservative leadership front runners Boris Johnson and Michael Gove are regarded as untrustworthy by more than half of voters. More than half of voters didn't seem to think that any of the contenders were any good. Nothing new, and hardly a surprise.
