According to PJ it takes 2 hours to drive out of Suffolk! What does he drive a bloody horse and cart! He is complaining about the geography of Suffolk when it comes to taking in other league games around the country for scouting missions. Is this the real reason why we have simply gone for over the hill ex premiership players!

1 Hour to London down the A12
2 Hours to the Midlands on the A14
5 Hours to the North West up the A14/M6
4 Hours to the North East up the A1

Buy a TOM TOM Mr Jewell! <ok>

    what is kirb crawling?

I can never understand this arguement, what can be better living in the lovely countryside with the family and you are only an hour and half away from the london nightclubs to pick up a nubile blonde while wifey is at home! perfect location!

Suffolk is the safest county to live in anywhere in the UK. Perhaps if we burnt out a few cars and bused in the all the extras from "last of the summer wine!" it would make him feel more at home!

    Its kerb SN.

All i will ask is if we are so remote, how the hell did we have a youth set up and scounting network the envy of the country in the late seventies and early eighties. You had to contend with ****holes like Northampton going along the A14 (or the A45) in those days!

Oh christ i've done it again!

Holland and Belgium are under 2 hours away!

As Bobby Once said it was quicker and easier to hop on a ferry at Harwich and take in some games in Holland and Belgium than to drive up North! Thats how he discovered Muhren and Thjssen afterall! <ok>

all i'll say is that we don't seem to have any problems attracting players to this neck of the woods and we are more isolated than yourselves. suffolk is a really nice area of the country to live and bring up children, just as norfolk is. its not a surprise that many ex-players who leave come back when they retire to live here! its an excuse - nothing more, nothing less <ok>

    I agree Supers!

Many of our ex players have made home in Suffolk since they retired from the game and even Bobby himself kept his family home in Capel St Mary. Yes Suffolk and Norfolk are both rural counties but I would rather live in this part of the country then somewhere god awful like Northampton, Birmingham or Manchester!

All joking aside I am just sick and tired of this lazy excuse trotted out time after time! The Dark Lord also used it time and again. We have had no trouble in the past with attracting players and our scouting network was second to none until Sheepshanks decided not to invest in it. This is at the route of our deep seated problems not having an effective scouting network. I know PJ can't be held responsible for this but he should be at least talking up the county and not coming out with these tired old excuses.

PJ is entirely right. A huge number of teams are in the north. That's a minimum four or five hour journey each way from Suffolk - a ten hour round trip. The midlands clubs are around 3 hours away. if you're in Derby you can get to the northern clubs in an hour or at most two. Likewise all the London clubs, Reading, Swindon, Oxford, Cardiff, Swansea.

I don't see what your problem is Warky. Obviously it doesn't take two hours to get out of Suffolk but he has an entirely valid point there. it doesn't matter how nice or safe Suffolk is, it is out of the way. Less so than Plymouth or Exeter who have got it worst, but out of the way nonetheless.

He's not talking about attracting players - he's talking about taking in games going scouting up and down the country!
