I have had time to digest the result and actually do think that the Brexit Party did do very well...The fact that Labour & Conservative have been floating around for years being the main two parties and the Brexit Party being just a few weeks old, with no manifestos and no polices and only lost by a few hundred votes...... I think the Brexit Party have got something to cheer about.......It's early days, but does make things a touch more interesting.
I was hoping that if I moved to Spain I could drum up enough interest for them to leave the EU, Which of course it wouldn't happen, as they are so heavily funded by it.............unlike the UK NB. All tongue in cheek!!
Personally I want the Tories to elect a leader with a spine, hopefully re - negotiate a good honest 2 way deal, if not get us out with honour and not try to please weepy remainers. I don't want Farage in charge, bang him back in his box.
I actually don't mind Farage (can talk his way out of most situations) but not sure he has enough qualities to lead the country..Would be good to having him around, just to make sure we actually leave.. I personally think we need Boris to steer us out, but I don't see it being long term............ahhhhh wow...it's all such a mess!!! Where's my sombrero!!!
Completely get it mate but if we have a hard brexit I may well move to spain, and there in a nutshell we have the problem....opinion is completely polarised
Are you aware that in the event of a hard-Brexit, if you do not have any alternative passports that you wouldn't be able to move to Spain without a visa?
Brexit party formed in a few months and only lost by a couple of hundred votes. Tory and Labour are very worried. Cracking result for the Brexit party.
I think with the amount of ex pats currently over there, I don't think it would be that difficult to get, in all fairness. I know plenty of people from all corners of the earth over there without any problem..........not half as bad to what it would be like to come here..
I said they did well, but if they can’t win a seat where the leave vote was one of the highest % votes in the country at over 60% leave where do you suggest they will win ?, that’s all I’m asking. Whilst they have no other policies they can draw in leavers from both sides of the political arena , as soon as they have other policies they are more liable to alienate either , left wingers , right wingers or centre , so whilst they will become more organised they will also come under more scrutiny.
Applying for a Spanish visa from a non-EU country, chances are you'll need a job lined up for you already, going by existing rules for Canadians, Australians, etc. So it's more like us trying to move to the US... i.e. very difficult.
Not entirely true.. I have plenty of Argentinian friends that have entered Spain ( Barcelona) They are working (didn't have a job lined up), kids in schools and treated using Spanish health care. What you are not able to do is blag off the state! To enable to apply for Spanish citizenship (papers) they would need to live & pay into the system for 5 years..
yes Rob I have a property in spain, would meet the residency requirements and pay all my taxes in spain, so I have the option. Don't fancy living in the Uk under a Raab or similar
It will be much more difficult than now As a citizen from a 3rd country I will need and income of €30k p.a plus private health ins at around €1k per annum person
However, despite clinging onto the seat, the result is no great victory for Labour whose share of the vote fell from 48% in the 2017 general election to just 31% last night. 2017 RESULT Tory Stewart Jackson had been Peterborough's MP for 12 years. He lost to Labour's Fiona Onasanya by 607 votes. "I think it was a pretty poor national campaign. We have to ask questions," said Mr Jackson. "It's a narrow loss, but a loss nevertheless. You can't take it personally. I know Fiona will do a superb job."...……………. BET HE DIDNT MEAN following JC and telling fibs …. Ms Onasanya said: "I'm just so grateful. I agree with Jeremy Corbyn that politics has changed tonight. "The people know there is a better way. I think I won because people saw that their vote matters." … kicked out after perverting the course of justice ….
Speaking outside court, Mr Ball said he had spent more than the £300,000 he raised on the case, leaving him in "massive debt". In a statement, he later added that he would "keep fighting". Joshua said the same …..
RedRobins Swiss post they also have borders …. ! Although manned they seldom do anything …. In the north of ITALY near Stelvio there is a fairly busy road not an A road, but is busy because the route takes you up over and through the Stelvio Pass an area of extreme natural beauty . it has a border with Switzerland …. the first time we turned off this road to go into Switzerland you go around a corner and there is an Italian border " customs post" and a Swiss one side by side there was no one in the Italian "cabin" but a couple of people in the Swiss one about 50m along …. so we stopped … 5 mins went by and although we got a feeling we had been seen the activity within was visible no one came to where we were stopped. Some 7 mins past and I opened the door and got out with that the window opened and a voice called out " are you ok have you broken down? we are having our dinner … " NO, is this customs?" ..YES carry on … there were 2 cars one Swiss one Italian …… [ Marked up as customs ] Belgium and Luxembourg have customs posts … was stopped entering Belgium twice! they have anpr and I FLAGGED UP AS being a regular visitor [ car/van ].. in my visits to LUXEMBOURG airport, They have an area inside Belgium border to check HGV traffic takes about 100 trucks! … Having been in transport for a while … you know where all the stopping points are for UK border and customs .. away from the ports … also every truck that comes into the UK is liable to be checked at any port as it comes off the ferry … they are also subject to checks before they get on it in the "uk" which is actually in France! or Belgium! so we are in the EU but still have border checks … EIRE IS different if we leave by default we are at least the same as the Swiss
Oh RR I don't mean to be rude but this is such nonsense. Switzerland have open borders. They're not in the EU but they are in Schengen (which we are not), which means NO border controls. Switzerland also pays into the EU and has to accept freedom of movement. They also have to abide by EU rules but don't have any say in making those rules. So if we were like Switzerland, absolutely nothing would have changed regarding borders and immigration. We'd still have open immigration from the EU. If you want that then why on earth do you want to leave?! We'd stay the same except we'd have no input on the laws that are made! In some ways I'd rather a hard Brexit than that as it would be utterly pointless.
In a referendum, the options was leave or remain. Regardless if you are loyal to a party or not, in a referendum, you are not voting for a party. You are voting leave or remain. In an election, you vote for a party who you believe in and sometimes you get those loyal voters, for whatever reason, will always loyally vote for a certain party regardless. All that you of course already know. As a result of the above and as a Brexiteer, I am not disappointed in this result. I am pleased the Brexit pary not only overtook one of the pain parties but also kicked the Lib Dems ass, who are really the only real remain party. And all this in just 6 weeks of setting up the party and without the data that labour had and actual no manifesto. Well done Brexit party says I.
