    Criminal how his career just fizzled out, was the only England midfielder of his generation who can actually go past opposition players with the ball at his feet.

    How did he piss it away? He kept breaking and fracturing his legs, probably caused by getting kicked taking players on. A good modern day example of someone who should've been first name on Southgate's team, but pissed their career away, is Ravel, the wannabe yardie.
    I think the problem is the managerial focus on keeping possession, which leads to a fear of losing the ball, so the sideways, backwards pass is preferable attempting to take players on.
