    I'd love VvD to win it, but they almost never give it to a defender.

    I'm expecting it to go to one of the usual suspects: Messi or Ronaldo. I'm surprised Salah is on the list tbh. He's had a good season but nothing like last year. Last year he was maybe BdO worthy... Not this year.

    Usually you have to win something to make the short list, stupid really considering it's a solo award in a team sport. Modric won it last year because he won the CL.

    Just seen that only 3 defenders have ever won it. The last was Cannavaro about 13 years ago
