I think winning trophies is an outcome of having a good side. Our team will improve more from a good run in the CL than it would from being in the EL. If we were in the EL then I'd like to win it.
Until Abramovich took over you were barely better than West Ham. They even won a European trophy before you. You only had one League title in your history and 8 trophies to our 16. History will tell which club had fleeting success.
Football has provided me with some of the best and worst memories of my life. It’s not all about winning pots, albeit I’ve been fortunate enough to see my club lift league titles, and have had some great days out at Wembley over 4 decades. But for every great and memorable win, there’s been a great escape like Wimbledon in ‘94 for example. There’s been drab away days in the rain when you lose without scoring, but have the time of your life with your mates. I remember a season in the 90’s when I wasn’t a pass holder but went to 13 games home and away (mostly away) and only saw us score once, one of the best seasons I can remember as it was all about the adventure and the craic. Good times.
You can't expect Chelsea fans to understand that though. It's all about hiring mercenaries and winning at all costs for them. It's @PISKIE I don't get though. Arsenal have remained a proper club throughout.
U Yeah only the top 5% or so have a genuine shot at trophies anyway. Pipe dream for most football fans.
We have won on average a trophy every season in the last 22 years......I dont think 22 years is fleeting. (And that starts before Abramovich even came).
Now you’ve got to be sustainable, as opposed to being an oil funded club, it’ll be interesting to see how that works out, when compared to the likes of Spurs and Arsenal who have already solved their stadium issues.
