pretty sure that the England team and English clubs have just passed their peak and normality will be resumed. Now, if JWP had been selected?
Exactly what I predicted could happen. Football doesn't always have natural stops the way other games do....yes, the ref was supposed to check with VAR, but the ball was in the keeper's hands....his chance to play out quickly would be lost if the Swiss penalty wasn't given. Not saying that VAR doesn't get some things right, but the VAR refs end up guessing on some incidents anyway. And they are going to show it on the screen (where possible)...I suspect for every decision it clarifies there will be another decision where the fans still get wound up because their opinion is different.
VAR is here and it is here to stay. People will get used to it. My prediction is PL referees will use VAR more sparingly than European referees. From what I've seen in the FA and League Cups it has been used well in England - the on field referee doesn't watch the replay himself, he takes the word of the VAR official. And VAR referees don't guess. They make a decision based on various replays and in the case of handball law, it will still come down to interpretation. But there are far more plus points to VAR than negatives.
Staging the finals now is just ridiculous. Should have been completed weeks ago, so everyone, fans and players can enjoy a decent break for a change before the next pre-season begins as the next season is mighty long. I do not give a fig about this tournament as we have the cricket world cup now, and that is much more important. Then we have Wimbledon, Royal Ascot, many F1 races, the super league, the World Athletic Championships and finally the rugby world cup, so fooball won´t get a look in until November .
