Hi bit late with this message but its better than being premature - disillusioned xx606er - don't post very often but like to read the crack
Once again welcome guys and please don't be afraid to join in, no one is going to bite! This board is much more relaxed than BBC606, having a bit of fun when the posts go off topic shouldn't cause problems. When serious points are made you will find lots of serious responses. Just as fun posts, should be treated as just that, fun. If you don't like an individuals posts stick them on "ignore" sorted. Once again mention of the swear filter, it is turned on when you sign in, if swearing doesn't bother you , you can turn swear words back on by going to bottom left.
Well I have just finished reloading Vista onto a friends laptop. He was having problems with being disconnected from the net and high bandwidth usage. Also the laptop was getting very hot and shutting down a lot. He actually has a burn on his leg off it! The software problems were easy, he was infested with spyware and a couple of trojan's! 3 toolbars were also installed???? Toolbars use bandwidth. Clearing the rubbish out was possible with a couple of tools that are free to use, (Malwarebytes) (Spybot search and Destroy)(CCleaner for clearing browsing history) was possible, but as he had nothing important on, I just formatted the HD and reinstalled Vista. I also installed Avira antivirus free, along with the above programs. The overheating was more difficult I had to strip the laptop to get to the processor and I was right with my guess that the vents and fan were blocked. I knew he put the laptop onto his carpet whilst still running and he has a dog, so I was pretty sure no air was getting in to cool it. The vent, heatsink and fan were absolutely blocked. The muck was practically welded inside. Cleaned the processor and heatsink applied a drop of paste and reseated everything, now running fine and has been for 3 hours. Moral of the story, don't put running laptops on the floor, it's just like a mini vacuum. Have a good Antivirus and AntiSpyware running, don't load toolbar's unless there's something you absolutely need the functionality it gives. Talking of vacuums when your lass has hers out (her vacuum ) use the hose to suck out any crap in the vents in your turned off laptop. Even if you aren't having problems it could save them in the future.
Can you give some advice on how to post pictures? I have some pics in my documents, but the post picture icon says to enter a url?
When posting click Go Advanced above where you are typing click the paperclip icon to add attachment.
I've noticed a couple of threads disappear from our board today???? Do threads get deleted when they've gone dead or did things get out of hand? Perhaps a quick post on here or a sticky, so we know why?
How do you make a recovery disk? I've ordered a laptop, but a recovery disk is an extra ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã15, and I don't want to waste this money!
Which laptop? Normally these days they come with a small hidden recovery partition. Or you will have the option to make a set of backup disks. (Careful you only get one chance at this as they delete the file after burning.) Probably both options will be there. Always best to use the manufacturers recovery as reinstalling all the drivers by hand is a nightmare.
Did any of you hear Fighting Talk Sat morning - Matt Dawson? You know the last bit where the finalists must argue in favour of whetver proosal the compere (Colin Murray - his only good gig): Dawson's contribution: "Yes, as he leaves, you see the prints of his two feet with a line in between" Classic!
I'm not sure if there are others, but Big Chris' "on the bus to Stoke" and a post by Syd about racism?
I can't get this to work, MR. I can select the file that i want to upload/attach. When I then click on Upload nothing seems to happen. I am using Firefox. Maybe I will try it in IE.
Hmm? Just tried myself, stopped working I'll get back to you. Meanwhile you could go here and upload your files http://imageshack.us/ no need to sign up, but if you do its free for small storage. Then just post the link to the pic. Handy for showing family and friends pictures as you don't need to attach them to eMails etc. Just send them the link.
