Vin for goodness sake.....it is you that is singling out specific race of people. I E poles..........I did use the term Europeans which include poles. I’m sorry you feel the only way to look at things is how you see it. I certainly will remind you what others say and what I feel is correct. Just as you do. If you don’t like it may I suggest you leave the forum.
Beddy, you chose to jump into a conversation that was (very clearly) aimed at Imps. I didn't invite you into it, so **** off telling me to leave the forum when I question you about your garbled response. You've got the "ban" button in front of you. Use it if it'll make you happy. So, here goes: "If it is OK for British people to move within the UK to fill job vacancies, is it OK for non-UK-based Europeans to move to the UK to fill job vacancies?" Is that question acceptable to you? Or am I somehow annoying you again? It seems a pertinent and relevant question but I have no doubt you'll dodge it again. Vin
Comedian Stewart Lee did a really good routine on people 'coming over here...'. Done in his inimitable style:
Vin if you write anything on a forum it is open for interpretation and indeed a response from anyone. If you wish to talk to someone in particular without anyone else joining in use the pm system. If you continue to try and bully me or anyone on this site you will be removed from the site. Now do you understand that??. I have always respected your views even though not necessarily agreeing with you. It is clear however if anyone disagrees with you you have little respect with them thinking in a different way.
You joined in with the conversation yet you're the one acting all hurt about the fact that I didn't comprehend your garbled response that mixed up what my question apparently meant, what Imps' opinions were and weird stuff assuming I didn't know that Scots were British. It was incomprehensible as an answer to the question I asked. I'm not bullying you, I'm asking you to answer a question. Act hurt and cry all you wish. Threaten me with a ban (I note it looks more likely given your language here) if you wish. Abuse your power and ban me if being asked a question to clarify your response warrants one. But for ****'s sake, why not just answer the question? I've even rewritten it to address your concerns when I used the awful word "Poles". Here goes. Hoping for an answer but knowing I won't get one. "If it is OK for British people to move within the UK to fill job vacancies, is it OK for non-UK-based Europeans to move to the UK to fill job vacancies?"
[QUOTE="Onionman, post: 12888874, member: 1019684" Here goes. Hoping for an answer but knowing I won't get one. "If it is OK for British people to move within the UK to fill job vacancies, is it OK for non-UK-based Europeans to move to the UK to fill job vacancies?"[/QUOTE] As per usual Vin you think you know everything........as I have already said........ as things stand I have no objections to anyone moving to anywhere to obtain work. Here or in Europe!!
Yes, that'll be why I asked a question. Because I know everything. I even prefaced the original version to Imps with "genuine question" so he'd know it was a request for information rather than a rhetorical device. I wanted to know his views. I was interested in how he might reconcile the answer to that question (freedom of movement within the UK) with his heartfelt views on EU freedom of movement. That really does imply I know everything, doesn't it? Vin
I was of course referring to the fact you were convinced I wouldn’t answer.........I did say you thought you knew everything not that you actually did!
Because they're middle-class, white, well-spoken, professional people who know how to interact with the mid-market tabloids. I'll add: I hope they do find her. However, that doesn't negate the unfairness of this. If Maddy had been the daughter of a nervous, diffident and insecure single mum, the treatment would have been entirely different. Vin
It’s a fair question and on checking BBC 2016 article /Spectator 2017/ watching Question Time when from Scotland have helped form the opinion I have for the issue around schools. Their top five universities are at a good place internationally that much is clear. English schools also are behind others in the world rankings but above the Scottish and Welsh schools, despite budget differences.
That is brilliant and you could probably exchange Paul Nuttall for Nigel Farage. The nostalgia for the “Nothing Times”. Reminds me of the people, like my sister for one, who is nostalgic for the war torn years, (even though she was born after the war ended), because she thinks that our country “had balls” then.
I love the faux sing-a-long of the 'Nothing Times'. A nostalgia that wipes clean the fact that times were actually worse before. In one sense, the difference is attitude and how we face up to things. In my opinion, Brexiteers, for example, look back at history and want to return to an older state. Whereas EU enthusiasts look back on history and want to move forward, making adjustments for the better as we go. We simply can't go backward to a nostalgic older time because inevitably, economically and culturally, we'll go back in time too.
Absolutely. I work with many Poles, Romanians, Portuguese and an Hungarian, amongst other nationalities from outside the EU. I don’t judge them by their nationality. I judge them by how they work and interact with others, and there are very few that I dislike. The South African - arrogant and universally disliked by everyone. The way forward is to maintain and strengthen our links with the EU and eradicate the little Englander attitude that infects too many. The alternative is to “stop taking orders from Europe”, to quote many Brexiters, and take them from the USA.
I hear you TSS and would agree with you to a point. However in my opinion this country can do even better by being out of the EU. Our history is we have proved time and time again we can over come, we can move forward on our own. I would be more than happy to go back to the old agreement of a common market, as would others even with perhaps open borders. We survived well enough before they made the EU into a state and will if we leave. I hear the experts and it is not going to be easy, thats a fact I accept. But with hard work we can do it. It’s just I have more faith in this countries abilities. Mind you I also agree we have made things so much harder than perhaps they could have been. The last three years have been totally wasted. I am beginning to think we should pull the hell out of all this and reconsider. Have another general election and even possibly another referendum. Then maybe try to see if there is a better way to do much the same thing and change some of the European minds as to what is bothering a fair proportion of this country. I have not heard too much about other countries moans and groans lately but I am hearing not all is well. No specifics and probably nervousness about us leaving. Without the UK’s balance the EU is not going to be as fine as they think. Someone said that, did they not in, was it not the German parliament? I know I saw it on here somewhere. The longer this goes on the longer and worse the devision Will be in this country. That is something I never wanted or imagined. The only thing I would ask for if we have another referendum is that we bring in new legislation or whatever is needed % wise. That which ever way the vote goes whoever is in power acknowledges that is how it has to be.
