FIFA should never have awarded the World Cup to the country, it was a ****ing travesty. And when it was made clear that Blatter and his inner circle were all wrong'uns (not like we didnt know anyway), they should have taken it away from Qatar and re done the bidding process. My hatred of international football only goes as far as it interrupts actual football, and a World cup held mid season, when all the European leagues are in full swing, is ****ing ******ed. All so FIFA can make an extra couple of quid. When Kane comes back crocked and it costs you champions League qualification, we'll see how much you like a Qatari World Cup.
Out of interest, why's it acceptable to interrupt other domestic leagues but not ours? Not that I particularly like the idea of a winter WC (or Qatar in general) but it's always seemed a strange argument to me.
Well its not just ours is it, its the whole of North America, Africa and Europe. Europe is where pretty much all of the worlds best players play, even a HUGE chunk of international players from other continents play in Europe, so to hold the competition in the European off season is the most convenient time to do it for the players who will be taking part in the tournament.
Not entirely sure, I think the season proper ends earlier, but they have play-offs or some **** that run into October. I dont know what the American obsession is with play-offs But again, a lot of the US squad play in Europe anyway. It just the least disruptive time for most of the players involved.
Starts on June 21st. Bound to be some high energy games playing late afternoon in July in ****ing Egypt.
