Well, last Saturday was my first visit to a premiership game in the emirates - my only other visits being emirates cup games, and a game at highbury before the move. I was in the away stand Saturday, having travelled up by train to watch my two beloved teams compete against each other. I even managed to find a half and half Swansea Arsenal scarf to highlight my split loyalties. If anything, although I live in Swansea, I have supported Arsenal even longer. Now - to my point in the subject line.....although Swansea are not going to compete to a high enough calibre on the pitch (not too bad mind you!) - you really need to take a lead out of the swans fans book. I could not believe how quiet the home fans were. I can honestly say I counted on one hand the amount of times the home crowd chanted or sang. This was soo dissapointing. I have heard people say highbury library, etc, but this was rediculous. The team are struggling, and that means even more you need to get behind the team, and become the thirteent man. I know I was in the swans area - hence the noise would be louder - but 3000 swans fan easily outsang 57000 arsenal fans. This really needs addressing! COME ON!!!!!!
if i ever went to any games i would be the loudest around. unfortunately i can't afford it and don't even live in britain. . but i went to wigan arsenal last season!
i would have been louder than all the away fans had the steward not found my vavuzella and took it off me
TOO MANY CORPORATE SEATS AT THE EMIRATES. This is one of the main reasons for the lack of atmosphere. That and the fact the normal working class fans cant afford to go to games with Londons high costs of living and arsenals ridiculous ticket prices.
The atmosphere at the Grove is no worse than any other ground.Yes the Swansea fans were loud on Saturday but with the greatest of respect to them it was a big day out for them. When i go to away games it always appears to me that we are louder than the home fans.I was sitting in the Clock End on Saturday and most of the people around me seemed to spend the majority of the game singing. On the subject of ticket prices,i paid £35 for a ticket on Saturday the same price as i will pay for a ticket to go to Blackburn this coming Saturday.I paid £36 to go to Newcastle to sit in a seat where i suffered from oxygen depletion whilst Newcastle fans will pay £35 for tickets for the return fixture
There's always been a 'road trip' element to supporting football, home fans rarely get behing their team as much as they do when they're away
Wait till you visit the liberty later in the year. The home fans barely stop singing for 90 minutes! Quite an intimidating atmosphere for away teams to play in. Has to account for several points a season on its own. Not just since being in the prem either. Perhaps Fabregas remarks about atmosphere recently aluded to this silence at the emirates!?
There are many reasons why it's like this: Corporate seats Tourists The size of the stadium 'Real' fans being priced out of seating so it's taken up by richer, casual fans On the field problems don't help either
I think the fans of the bigger clubs in England can learn a thing or two from the Dortmund game tonight. Cracking atmosphere there.
Very good point. I posted some facts about ticket prices a week or so back we are certainly not the most expensive for seats. Our lowest priced seats compare quite favourably to other clubs. Also not sure how tourists figure in this - how do they get tickets?
Arsenal fans are spoilt. There was a cracking atmosphere at Highbury when AW took over, we went from the competitive also rans to be champions, now we're some way behind both Manchesters and struggling to secure Champions Lge football fans don't like it, they expect us to be 3-0 at H/T every week. I've sat next to fans getting frustrated inside the first 10 mins because of a poor effort, bad choice, pass that goes astray etc, fans must shoulder some of the blame as the players respond to atmosphere. I'm just glad very few in here can remember the early 80s when 17,000 would turn up for a league game and the season was all about beating Tottenham and Liverpool
I was having a beer before a game last season and started talking to two Dutch lads. They'd purchased tickets from a tout site and had paid £150 for £33 tickets. The sad part was they had red membership cards and a printed letter with their seat details etc.Obviously touts have memberships and use them to purchase tickets. Before the Liverpool game i was outside the ground with my son in law and a couple of foreigners came up to us and asked if the Queensland Road building site was Highbury.Don't forget if people are members of any of our numerous foreign supporters clubs they have the same ticketing rights as anyone else
