there's a strong political motivation to get messi even with ronaldo at the top again. they are worried their record holder will end up being proven a fraud and rapist.

I don't know whether Virgil has a real chance of winning it or not. He himself doesn't think he has. His stats this season say nobody dribbled past him in 64 games in all competitions. A defender can do no better than that. It's astonishing. The last defender to get the award was Cannavaro in 2006. Up against Messi who's going for that magic number 6 and whose own stats are amazing too I'd say he has a small chance. Am I bothered about the award in general, no. Will I be bothered if he doesn't win it, no, but whenever a Liverpool player is up for an award I always back them. Forwards can get better and better. Defenders simply can't do any more than Virgil's done this season.
If VVD had helped us win the league and CL double would be very hard not to give it to him. Messi will prob win it though, huge amount of goals for Barca as they comfortably won the league. Goals again in the CL as well. However if vvd got it, I don’t think anyone would complain.
