I saw a clip of a few dozen demonstrating in Leeds yesterday, typical unwashed scruffy lefties with nothing better to do.

I know you're not going to answer this, you never seem to answer direct questions, however here goes:

Chesh wrote "Sounds like the same lot who sailed on the Mayflower and settled parts of America" in response to a post by Brizzy about the Plymouth Brethren. I never stated that they started at the same time in my reply to Chesh I simply pointed out that the Plymouth Brethren were founded 2 hundred years after the sailing of the Mayflower. So can you explain what your concerns are or you point is. Is it:

1 That having gone to America on the Mayflower the sect came back to Dublin in the early 1800's to found the Plymouth Brethren
    2. Are you saying the sect existed prior to the sailing of the Mayflower but their existence was not recorded for another 2 hundred years.
    3. Was Chesh refering to the Wee Free sailing on the Mayflower
    4. Are you saying something completely different and I'll get a youtube video to prove it.

I know nothing about the Plymouth Brethren but would be so interested if you can provide more information.

The lot who went on the Mayflower were the Pilgrims, wasn't implying it was the same people, but groups split, change names etc, just saying probably some link between the 2 groups from the same place with what seems the same beliefs.

... rather like the free churches you’ve been referring to in your spat with WJ are independent of the wee frees, just take their beliefs from similar fundamentalist doctrines.

Not surprising Paisley founded the Irish lot. Lots of shouting loudly at sinners to repent. To the manor born.

The free Presbytarian church is the second largest Presbytarian church group in Scotland, has 100 churches in Scotland alone and probably thousands in the World as they are global. They aren't a sect and anyone who thinks they are is a fool.

There’s a free Presbyterian Church of Scotland (wee wee frees) apparently. There’s less of them than the Free Church of Scotland (wee frees).

I’d never heard of either of them before yesterday but sticking to the wee frees - and reading the same wiki page as you no doubt - it’s called the free Church of Scotland and the clue seems to be in the name. It lists their churches, they have one or 2 dotted around but its pretty much Scotland. The thousands around the world you refer to, I haven’t counted them, will be other churches with broadly similar beliefs.

Hell, I don’t know how potty this particular group are, nor do I care. The whole god-fearing, repent ye sinners stuff isn’t really my bag.

    Chambers definition of a sect.

    noun
    1. A body of followers, esp of an extreme political movement
    2. A school of opinion, esp in religion or philosophy
    3. A subdivision of one of the main religious divisions of mankind
    4. An organized denomination, used esp by members of the established churches to express their disapproval of the less established or smaller

    sectāˈrian adjective

    1. Of or relating to a sect, or between sects
    2. (of a crime, esp a murder) motivated solely by a hatred derived from religious bigotry
    3. Narrow, exclusive, rigidly adhering to the beliefs of a given sect
    4. Denominational

The free Presbytarian church that WJ said on the Isle of Lewis is part of the main free Presbytarian church group that is world wide with hundreds and hundreds world wide. It is one of 7-8 churches on the Isle of Lewis, so if Trump's grandparent was a church going person he could have gone any church including the Catholic or other Churches on the island, so basically any Church going group in the world, unless the whole church going world are a sect, then you like him are wrong again, as you were with your sunami post which had nothing to do with the minister from the church on the Isle of Lewis. <doh>

    Hers’s what he actually said.

So he was talking about trump’s mother and likelihood of her being a member of the wee frees, who we’ve established are pretty much a Scottish church.

She was Presbyterian and unlikely to have gone to a Catholic Church.. especially as it wasn’t founded on Lewis ‘til years later.

She was from near Stornaway her church options on Lewis at that time were our good friends the wee frees or smaller wee wee frees.

Are either of these groups a sect? I posted the definition so people can draw their own conclusion.

Who cares what religion she once was, what church she had the fortune/misfortune of being born into... she had the good sense to move on and better herself.

Unlikely - I didn't think a visitor, let alone a forum member can amend a thread title - has to be a mod.

Must be Elland again on a crusade.....<laugh>

We have no proof of her being religious at all, going to any church and certainly not 99%+ chance of her being a member even if it was a sect which it isn't.so very little chance at all, more of a worry shouldn't be Donald Trump, but WJ and his family who admit to going to what he says is a sect and having close links. But back to the original post, we can almost be certain it's all tosh, made up with no truth at all in it.

Not sure about that, particularly on another club's forum.

I often get asked by my guys to amend thread titles for them so I assumed they haven't got the tools to do it thenselves.

For instance, I can do it as a mod on my own forum, but I doubt I can do it on here. <ok>
