Where I disagree is that Kane should never have started, imo. He was clearly nowhere near match fit and was ineffectual for the vast majority of the game.
Not exactly, but those are the facts of the match that panned out because of the penalty. Goals change matches, had you not scored so early, it is likely that you would have been a bit more attacking for longer possibly giving us a little more room to counter.
Mate I've been on here a fair few years and never been so offended by anything until now. I am NOT a fcking scouse kopite thank you very much! The reason why I asked is to say that your setup to begin with was all wrong and really that was the problem, not so much Liverpool taking the early lead. Forget for a second how their opener came about, but they scored in the 2nd minute and you had 88 mins to score and couldn't. Had it stayed 0-0 and they scored at any time later you would've had the same problem. That really was because of your starting line up. It really only catered for you scoring first and nobody knows if that would've happened either.
I am very sorry - I should have realised where your loyalties lie and really never meant to offend you. In my opinion we picked a team that fitness issues aside most people would say is our best XI - set up in a way that has won more games for us in the last 3 /4 years than any other formation. it was in my opinion the performances of the players not the system that was the issue. But I still maintain that the early goal did allow Liverpool to defend deep and we played in front of them rarely troubling them.
He has every right to be pissed off. At least Klopp recognised that playing Firmino was a mistake and pulled him.
And there isn't a hint of hindsight in what I'm saying...the stattos amongst us need to realise that stats aren't enough...a players psyche in one off games can be everything. It's a shame Mauricio Kane gave Moura's confidence a punch in the guts so that he could play the chosen one who quite frankly has done **** all but occupy the injury room for the past 2 months.
I heard Lineker come up with this theory last night and thought he was mental. I watched the game again in the early hours, but was pissed. Just been to the parade (I'm not rubbing it in) and mentioned it to my brother-in-law. He says he agrees with Lineker! So I went back to my sister's and he played it again - and yes, it does look a bit like he kicked it at his arm when you watch it again. That all said, they do give them in Europe like that all the time. We had one given against Milner like that last season, and an even more bizarre one against Klavan in Europe. Anyway, ****e game. Was glad you played Kane and not Moura. We made the same mistake with Bobby, but Klopp EVENTUALLY put it right. Thought our goalie was class in that last 15 minutes too. Incomparable to that joke we had playing in Kiev. But good luck next season. Great fans.
Madrid Calling, I can't face central Madrid tonight . Sitting in a bland but pleasant surburb (Tres Cantos) feeling rather deflated but warm joy speaking to my 3 girls in Suffolk and so wish l could be back home with them on the farm . My flight seems so far being Wednesday . I feel as many we have come to a crossroads . Poch's style of play needs to be adapted . The kloop model l think is more effective as its a more directive way of the press. They don't waste time in crossing , shooting or pissing around the back. Hopefully lessons will be learnt and like others loosing Eriksen and others doesn't seem so destructive. Hopefully Poch will be given maximum support by those above but the past doesn't leave me confident. A very strange season of few league highs and euphoric champ league knock outs but tainted with what could have been. Love to all A Despondent Sid
When all is said and done, both teams were a bloody disgrace to CL with Liverpool more commited to defence than Spurs were, which was the decider. But at least the local cops were happy beating up Spurs fans! I wonder if the Madrid cops have been charged? Ha!
this was posted on our board & thought you lot might like it too please log in to view this image Good lad
Its great that you can tell if a player is match fit from watching on TV when Poch can't from direct observations. Poch would never have picked him if he wasn't ready. Edit. This is over grumpy sorry.
Onions. Onions everywhere. Perfect song choice ('Stronger than ever' - Greyworm). Absolutely perfect lyrics.
He was off the pace the whole game. Had the least touches of any player on the pitch in the first 45 mins. For me, and many others, he clearly wasn’t match fit. And was little more than a passenger. Klopp saw that he’d made a mistake with Firmino and pulled him. Poch should have done the same with Kane.
I thought he played OK. Certainly no worse than Dele or Eriksen. He was dropping off and creating space for Son.
24 hours later. Still gutted. Not so much that we lost, as after 57 years of following Spurs I expect us to blow up in key games more often than win, but the manner of the loss and the total deflation I felt when that ridiculous penalty was given, was on a par with losing the 1987 cup final. Many people have told me to stop banging on about it as these type of pens get awarded in Europe more often than not. It seems that European refs either cannot or will not try to determine intent or otherwise. I may be wrong or perhaps out of date but is the implication always that a handball is deliberate and punishable regardless of circumstances? If so then the world of football according to FIFA or UEFA is totally mad. But I should know that anyway. Last moan from me on the topic. Perhaps the outcome can be positive. Potential transfer targets, having seen last night, will appreciate they have the opportunity to improve the team and some of those current players regarded as untouchable can be replaced by the right choice. I might get over last night by August. COYS!!!
Why would Poch take Kane off when he was better than Son, Dele and Eriksen? Even with fewer touches he still looked more up for it than the others, especially second half and he was creating space for Son. Makes no sense to have taken him off over any of the other forward players, especially as he got better as the game went on, so the notion he weren’t fit enough is bemusing to me. Lucas definitely should’ve started, but he should’ve started over Winks, who was clearly less fit than Kane on the night, Eriksen should’ve dropped back into CM.
