MAYFAIR SPIRIT to complete the hat-trick at Nottingham in the 3:20 looks about the only decent bet on the card. He beat the favourite last time at Salisbury in a photo and is a pound worse off; and won over course and distance the time before. At Chantilly, it will be interesting to see how Matematica runs in the Prix de Sandringham as she was fifth in the Pouliches last time when second favourite (Rocques seventh). In the Grand Prix de Chantilly, Silverware is still knocking around at the age of seven but surely cannot win this off the back of two minor wins in the provinces. Petit Fils comes into the race off a Group 3 win over Folamour but I think that Listen In can defy her penalty as she does appear to be the only Group 2 performer in the field, winning the Prix Du Conseil de Paris last October. The much hyped Persian King will go off a short-priced favourite for the Prix Du Jockey Club as he steps up to ten furlongs after winning the Poulains. Fabre runs two others and there are three going for Aidan O’Brien, first choice of which would appear to be Cape Of Good Hope, despite him having finished behind Mohawk in the Royal Lodge last term. Zarkallani would really need to show some serious improvement to feature and Guineas seventh Kick On can take some comfort from the run of Madhmoon yesterday. Dante third Surfman finished ahead of Japan, so that one’s run yesterday gives Andrea Atzeni hope. Fabre must know whether Prix Noailles winner Slalom has a chance of retaining his unbeaten record and he must have a line on Freddie Head’s Motamarris as he trains the runner-up from that one’s eight length win in a three-runner race last time. If something is going to rain on Persian King’s parade, Highland Reel’s brother Cape Of Good Hope may be the one.
I wonder whether Sir Barney has popped across to Fakenham this afternoon for the "1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (For The Prince Of Wales Cup) Novices' Handicap Chase" - just his cup of tea I should imagine and, although only 4 runners go to post, it is tricky with a capital T in terms of finding the winner. Pretty low-grad fare and the money that has pushed Pray For A Rainbow into favouritism ought to be rewarded. I wonder who is presenting the trophy?

Ran a stinker! Left at the start and only improved into midfield. The winner (Sottsass) was extremely impressive and I believe broke the track record.
I've got one for Thursday. It's going to be running at Ripon in the 4.50. The horse is called Kind Review and I know the lad who works in the stable. It came in 2nd on its debut and they weren't expecting anything from it. He told me he had a good ride out the next day and he got a good feel from it. They're stepping it up in trip this week and they said that should bring about more improvement. He's a right bastard of a horse to work with every day apparently but he came alive at the track. Zarkallani was a 90 rated maiden winner, running 7 days after winning his maiden. He had no right to be in that race, far less go off at ridiculous odds.
Can I just say that this is how you do an ‘I’ve been told…’. Absolutely first class. Info given way in advance of the raceday, members are advised who ‘told’ them and a clear and concise summery given as well. Let this post be a template for anyone who does an 'I've been told...' from now on. Am looking forward to seeing Kind Review run later in the week. I note, by the way, that current connections picked him up from Godolphin for just £800 in January (his former owners paid £125,000 back in August ’17).

Must confess I hadn’t noticed but cor bally blinkin’ blimey one of them up for sale is my old fave, Kilcrea Vale. If only I had a bit more loot in the old vault. Could drone on about him all day but in brief think he is amazingly well handicapped over fences on 127. He’s never been one to totally rely on but on a going day this would be Lenient with a capital ‘L’. New surroundings and all that and Kilcrea Vale could next reappear totally revitalised. It will be fascinating to see where he ends up. I don’t know if you can remember but ages back Kilcrea Vale was the horse who after 1 run (against 8 horses in a Market Rasen novice) over hurdles was given a perch of 147. One of the most bizarre pieces of handicapping of all time that. That Cape Sharma does look exceptional. Will he be one of theirs though that slips through the net and goes very, very cheaply??? I also quite like Percy Prosecco. Has very low marks both on the flat and over hurdles (despite winning in both disciplines) and could prove to be a fun dual purpose horses capable of better than his current marks. Meanwhile, I see Godolphin are also selling a 3YO called Devizes (was with old boy Andre in France)! Chippenham and now Devizes what is it about them and Wiltshire towns?!?
Indeed. They've found a bit of a diamond in the rough, it seems. I'm actually meeting the guy tomorrow so I should be able to update this a little bit more. What do people think of this? The guy who looks after the horse and spends his time with it every day shouldn't just be cast aside like that? He should be able to lead the horse in surely?
