Right, the analysis ...
1. Trippier
VERY fortunate to be starting based on recent form.
Justify that selection.
2. Winks
VERY bold selection by Pochettino IMHO, given his recent injury.
3. Kane
On the understanding that he IS Spurs physio 90 MINS match fit.
I will go ballistic if after the event I learn twas not so.
4. Moura
It was either Son or him on the bench.
He must have at least the final 30 mins of the 2nd half.
Not sure how I feel.
I don’t want to be negative, but I can’t help but feel slightly anxious about our set up/team selection.
I don’t think Kane will get a lot of success tonight against Van Dijk. Last time we played them, we relied on the outlet ball. Kane was doubled up on, and isolated with his back to goal. Not to mention Moura deserved to keep his place. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard to leave Kane out, but it’s literally his first game in 53 days.
Also, seeing Son and Moura both running at Liverpool’s defence would have helped keep Robertson and TAA pinned back a bit, preventing them doubling up down both flanks with Mane and Salah on Trippier and Rose.
I like winks...but a second player in the XI coming back from injury? It’s a big risk. One that could be a masterstroke, or back fire massively.
Trippier, well... good luck to him. If he manages not to get torn a new one, he’s had a bloody good game even if he does nothing else.
Finally, BT sport have made it look like a diamond midfield. Not sure why we persist with it?
Anyway, it is what it is.
COYS! We’re all behind you!
