According to Raul Meireles Liverpool told him that he was surplus to requirement, and they also asked him to ask for transfer. Have they asked him to ask for transfer to avoid the anger of supporters.?
He was hardly forced out. Commoli has come out and denied this and said that Raul forced the move, which is fair enough because as he was promised an increase in his salary. It's a shame it's come down to this because although he is a good player who contributed a bit, he's ending up like Torres with the verbals. Wish players could keep their mouths shut for a channge.
He was ''promised'' a pay-rise by the previous regime, and any idiot would know once they relinquished control of the club all their ''promises'' were null and void. The same thing applied to Roy Hodgson and his 3 year contract. It was worthless, FSG could dump him whenever they felt like it, and they did so. The fact remains that Mereiles angled for a move at the summer due to this and waited until the last minute to force it. He's just trying to save face by suggesting he's not the guilty party, when in fact he is.
Meireles came out with this ridiculous claim and at the same time said we had 'broken promises'. 100% pay rise was the promise by the previous regime and yes, it becomes null and void when a new regime begins. His made it clear that although this may not be the sole reason he left, but definetly one in the top 3.
Whilst players contracts are hardly worth the paper that they are written on, the usual Laws of Contract do still apply. Liverpool could not demand that he hand in a written transfer request as that would be illegal and I'm certain that his agent/lawyers would have been all over that like a rash!
LFC were within their rights to only let him go if he publicly stated he wanted to,therefore he must put in a transfer request,in doing so he loses his percentage of the fee(10%)which some might say is a punishment for wanting to leave. Same as we only let Torres go after he put in a request and he lost around £5m.
It might mean nothing in terms of dosh to some of them but it tidies the books up and dots the i's and crosses the t's when it comes down to the legal stuff.
BUT the thing here is that he had signled his desire to leave. LFC did not tell him that he MUST put in a request when he wanted to stay - therein lies the legal rub.
here's the thing.... this guy is playing at porto and is 27... in the CL etc. hodgson wanders over (or whomever) and offers him X to come over with some sort of perfromance related detail that was not in his contract???? and he takes it. logic would suggest that a) what he signed up on was more than what his was on at porto b) if no such perfromance related pay scales were in contracts then basically he or his agenter are total dimbulbs. In the end he's left for chelsea, maybe got his pay rise but feels he can't just keep his mouth shut on it either for some naive thinking liverpool fans will forgive him or just from purely being backed into a corner by being stupid while on international duty. for me it half sounds like its made up.
The lad has already stated he wanted to play under AVB again so I don't believe he was forced out. He probably told the management he wanted to leave and they just asked him to put it in writing.
dave, any club can demand that a player under contract signs a transfer request before being allowed to leave,Torres and Raul were an integral part of KK's team and both had the choice to stay but both chose in the end to leave(for their own reasons).
Page, you are right. However, if a player makes no signal (verbal or action) that he wishes to leave, he cannot be forced to tender a written request - that is prima facie Unfair Dismissal
Not really dave, the club has the contract and decides whether to let him go or not after the player asks permission to be released from a binding contract, its not unfair dismissal because both sides agree to it happening. And like mito said we(the fans dont see what goes on behind the scenes)and unless and until the club make a statement which they wont we have to read raul's puny excuse for not really wanting to leave LFC.
Ok its only Metro but none the less DM is quoted as saying Meireles wanted to leave. http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/875284...do-torres-he-didnt-want-to-play-for-liverpool
Page, it's not really an argument. he wanted to go - he left - end of. How he wants to justify that is up to him and of very little consequence to me. He's no longer a Liverpool player and therefore of little to no interest to me.
Surely he realises that all promises made by the previous regime were null and void as soon as it left their lying b@stard mouths. even if they had still been here, did he really expect them to open their wallet when they didnt have to? no.
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but some perspective on the Meireles issue from Comolli (Taken off the LFC website) We've had lots of fans asking why Raul Meireles was allowed to leave the club to sign for one of our rivals? I think Raul said it himself with what I've seen recently in the press. Basically, he came to see me and said 'I want to leave, I want to play for another club'. Our intention was not to sell him but we were put in a corner a little bit when he put in a transfer request and said he wanted to go and that he didn't want to play for Liverpool anymore. I think the owners and Kenny have said it, and we all have the same view. When someone doesn't want to be here it's difficult to say 'you are going to stay'. We've been through that process in January with Fernando Torres and this felt like the same situation. We've done it, we think it was the right thing to do for the club, because it's very, very difficult to have somebody here who doesn't want to be here. The job of the manager in the Premier League is already difficult having to manage 25 players and only having 11 to start on a match day, so you have to deal with all the others. On top of that if you have someone who is adamant they don't want to be here and wants to play for someone else, we took the view it's better if he goes and we get the best possible deal for the club. In the end I think we did well.
I liked Raul he did some good stuff for us BUT It is no surprise really his previous manager prob said that he wanted Raul back in his team +higher wage ect And we don't want a player who will not give it all in our team so i'm glad that he got permission from the club and has left Good luck to the lad
