NW said in post match interview that Bootroyd wasn't used to the quality of ball SWP was providing him - hopefully a few more sessions on the training pitch should get that sorted and he can start putting that head onto those crosses and start scoring the goals we need
Well with the way Boothroyd played tonight, SWP crosses will have to get even better and either go straight in or hit Boothroyd and bounce in. But I'm sure he'll come good, he's no Rob Hulse. I hope.
Agree with those that are saying Bothroyd's the man. His game was all there tonight bar getting his sights lined up right. Like the look of DJ too. Great that he offers a completely different style. Between them they'll keep teams guessing - and with SWP, Taarabt and Barton to worry about, the finishing will come.
I have to say. i thought the original post made a fair point and asked a fair question. I know we are all proud as punch after that performance, but we have to allow people to give their point of view on this board. Last nights performance was superb. The result was not what we wanted but the performance was superb. It gave me a real buzz to see QPR taking apart an established Prem team and lets face it "a big club". I fear for Newcastle on that performance and think that provided we play with the same organisation, passion, intensity and skill we will be ok. I thought both our full backs made a real attempt to get forward which is what is required espeically if we are going to continue playing Ali and Shaun. Young looked class, simple as that. SWP was a real handful and will contribute goals from midfield. Tarbs now knows that he has to show up week in and week out or there are players on the bench that will replace him. Derry was immense and was my MOTM. I think the original question made was fair and Bootsy will have to prove to us all that he can score regularly at this level. He deserves the necessary time to prove this. The only worry for me is that we have only scored one goal in 4 games. Creating chances is fine, hitting the post and crossbar is fine, making the keeper work is fine, but we will not win matches if we cannot put the ball in the net consistently. Was slightly (yes, slghtly) annoyed that NW did not give DJ a longer run. Bootsy just did not look like he would score last night and DJ needs more than 9 minutes to change a match. Just my observation All looks good for now, atmosphere looked great.
I just think it's a bit early to be saying these things. If we're struggling to score after 10 games then fair enough!! I was very impressed with Bothroyd's overall hold up play and with the amount of headers he won. Come on....we played brilliantly. What a difference a few weeks make. Like my mate Cerny says............. Patience!! (FFS!).
Hard not to be very positive after that performance but I have to agree that lack of goals could be a concern.
I agree with this post! could not say better -Shenleyqprdave! Some of the young one forget some times that we (older) fans did live before they were born!
To answer the initial question: yes, any criticism of last night's fantastic performance is harsh. But I have to disagree that Bothroyd or DJ have looked really good. The quality of the squad has increased dramatically since they first arrived and they need to up their game to stay with this trend. I don't think that's impossible but they certainly can't stand still.
if you like the way the team played then Bothroyd is your man for DJ to play up front you either have to change the formation and go 4-4-2 or leave out one of Derry/Faurlen to play DJ, DJ cant lead the line like Bothroyd does so its make your mind up time.
