I was absolutely amazed we paid that much for him. He showed some touches but he was never worth £20million. We seem to do very well signing players for upto £12Million - Wanyama, Van Dyke, Clyne, Lovren, Bednarek, Mane, Pelle, Tadic. Most of the players above that price have been poor- Hoedt, Carillo, Elynoussi
Perhaps we were expecting too much from them perhaps...........At £10/12 mil you expect novices....but after that we expect a bit more perhaps......
He was the ultimate proof that MP2 was absolutely hopeless. How he ever believed GC was the player we needed is beyond me. You would think he was trying to get us relegated...
Appears from the headlines that Leicester have overtaken us in the Jarrod Bowen race. We were favourite at one point. The biggest fallout from our last three seasons has been our inability to attract decent talent. We were one of the most attractive clubs in the league for young talent and now it appears we are firmly behind the top half and not much ahead of the newly promoted sides (if at all). The longer we go without decent talent the harder it will become to sign them so really need this summer to go well.
Yea totally agree that too. But he hasn't done that bad away from us although nothing to set things alight perhaps. Strange Pellegrino Wants him so badly.......
Can you blame a player choosing Leicester over us? Recent champs, pretty much best of the rest, good manager, good set up, great owners and good squad with a lot of British influence. They also pay more than we do!
I think it was ultimately the Carillo purchase that did for Uncle Les. A once proud legacy of talent spotting and wise purchases started to become more and more littered with odd misfits that were way wide of the mark. Whilst we all had a laugh at the purchase and subsequent shenanigans of Captain Jack Sparrow Osvaldo, it was a brutal waste of reddies but this started to become the rule rather than the exception. I’m not just going to lay into him as he isn’t here anymore, but it will take several years to finally see the back of what he put in place. Forsters ridiculous deal, Alien Lucy, Carillo, the way Fonte left the club but ultimately until we can start attracting players like Madison that we missed out on, there is still part of Les’s legacy living on.
The price doesn’t really have a bearing. Pelle, Tadic were signed 5 years ago, Clyne, Lovren, etc longer back. 12m then is a lot more on today’s football inflation.
Our £12m outlays back then are more akin to £20/25m signings now. Regardless of the outlay, some players work out and others don't.
Want to have your day ruined? Leicester's wage bill in 2017-18 was all of 5% higher than ours. Heck, Spurs' wage bill was 12% higher than ours. We can easily afford to keep up with them on wages for good players, if we cease spending on dreck.
With Ralph stating he wants a smaller squad backed up by youth players, it shows we are heading in the right direction. Keeping the wage bill as it is, but spreading it across fewer players should see us able to attract better players.
I don't think we have any hopes for Carrillo….we'd sell him if we could. I think I may have muddied the waters a tad....someone posted something suggesting he has been sold (may or may not be true) and then I posted a slightly out of date suggestion that he had been loaned out. Let's hope we have found a more permanent solution.
Still twenty £mil light though........... We seem to have been panicked into buying him in the first place.........
The board must take responsibility for that signing - especially if it was for Pellegrino, only to dispense with him shortly afterwards!
Yep agree........Err we 'aint got a board at the mo have we to take responsibility.................?? Or have I missed some posts??
