Who should play up top for City on Saturday out of Adebola, Waghorn, Fryatt and McLean? 1 of them, 2 of them, or 3 of them and which ones???
Fryatt and Waghorn, they're our best strikers. Mclean scored a good goal on Saturday and he works hard, but his first touch is poor and we need more quality against Pompey.
I thought Mclean showed some good touches and clever flicks on saturday throw in a goal aswell I think it would be harsh to drop him. Waggy and Mclean for me
You've got to stick with McLean, Fryatt and Waggy are our best strikers, but there's no way Pearson will drop McLean after Saturday.
So who do you think should start? All 3? Would NP be daring enough to play all 3? I doubt it personally.
I dont think all 3 of them in the same team would be effective actually, the best way for us to go with 3 up front is to have Brady and Stewart up top. I liked the formation QPR played last night with Derry sitting and letting the rest attack, we don't have that quality of players for that though. Pace and width is our best bet! Who are Pompeys defenders? Halford Heriederson Mokoena ?? I'm not sure!
I dont think we can play 3 with Brady on the wing it would leave him no space to exploit 4 4 2 for me and hurry Cameron we need some balance
Can't rush him, if we loose him again for rest of season it will be a big blow. He will be like a new signing when he comes back!
ahh thats right, Ben-Haim - absolute donkey! McLean should definately start, to rush him to make mistakes as everyone knows he makes. Would you agree?
I understand why, and I would do the same, but can't see it happening. Its not that I don't like the others, but McLean had his chance and he took it, so I'm sure he will get another one on Saturday. I hope we can make it another away win when I travel to Donny on tuesday as well!
I agree that Fryatt and Waghorn are our best strikers, but I think this is going to be one of those situations where what is right in the short-term will be sacrificed for what is seen to be right as a long-term philosophy. I think McLean will keep his place after providing us with the victory on Saturday. I'm sure Pearson is VERY keen to reward McLean's work ethic as a lesson to the rest and after he scored a goal at Posh, I just cannot see him being dropped. Of the 3 strikers NP has the most reason to leave Fryatt out, Waghorn is new and obviouisly keen to prove a few people wrong, McLean for the above reasons. Fryatt is out of form and has looked sluggish so far this season.
That would leave us very narrow again and leave the full-backs exposed. I like 4-3-3 (4-5-1) and we played that against Palace with Brady, Fryatt and Koren all in a line (although several people seem to think it was a rigid 451). However, I don't think we have the midfield mobile enough to play that formation. You need quick, mobile midfielders who can put a tackle in to play 433, otherwise your full-backs are REALLY exposed. Either that or your two wide players in the 433 need to cover back very quicky, something Koren and Brady are capable of.
I wouldn't disagree with any of that and I do think that Mclean will probably keep his place, I was just picking the pairing I'd prefer.
Indeed. Thing is, we still need a 4th striker in the Modine, Lambert, Holt, Austin stylee. I see Modine is starting to produce the goods for the Wendy's now and Austin at Burnley. So frustrating!!
12 in 29 for Madine since joining in Jan is pretty impressive. Austin's been unlucky with injury but looks to be coming good, at least we did try to get him with a £1.2m bid.
We have a perfectly good target man who we haven't really needed to employ yet. If NP does decide he needs to use him at some point, he will do. But you can't say the option isn't there.
