was surely proved last night. Huge squads at Chelsea & City for example limit playing opportunities but at Rangers most of the squad will feature week in week out. Did I pick up on some mindless fact that SWP had played 16 minutes (or something equally stupid) of first team football in the past 12 months? Last night he showed what he can do and with a regular berth in the first team his match fitness and sharpness will be back in no time. A relatively bargain buy he could grace pretty much any Prem team but back in London and getting the nod each week he could get double figures as Warnock said last night. Modern football is lamentable but I am heartened by the likes of SWP taking a perceived 'step down' to come to us just as I am pleased that Sturridge was picked ahead of Fernando at the weekend. When chelsea lob £25m here and £50m there I am always pleased when the waifs / strays and kids step up and prove everyone else wrong. That will make the QPR team bond strong which no amount of money can buy. I can't wait for Wolves now, play like that and we should blitz many teams around us.
a lot of credit has to go to warnock, most managers wouldn't touch the likes of adel, anton, or even armand with a barge pole but he's able to see the potential they have with a little bit of work. it was amazing to see us flow forward last night. joey was actually the floater not adel! it really was a joy to behold apart from the finishing. we really should have won 2 or 3 nil at least!
That's a good call WBA. Many of these players have something to prove having been bypassed in various earlier set ups. Wright-Phillips was the epitome of the hunger that leaves in a player last night. And a consistent starting XI of reasonable quality players can often outdo the clubs with shifting squads of super stars. There are only 38 league games to play in 9 months and we are already out of one of the cups so I can see no reason why we will need to chop and change if things are working. The challenge for Warnock is to maintain the hunger among his starting line up to fantastic level of enthusuiasm we saw last night.
Yes, I think Warnock said on Talk Sport that SWP hadn't played any first team football for over a year, so his performance last night was a real credit to the guy - you could see the frustration in him when things didn't go right - he knows he's not at the top of his game - he must have loved it last night though, playing in that atmosphere instead of sitting on a cold bench in Manchester watching the game played in front of him
I also think we look a lot stonger at the back - as much as Newcastle did not offer too much up front last night. I am sure the partnership between Ferdinand and Gabbidon (even if he let a few wayward passes go) will florish as we progress. If we can keep clean sheets, that is half the battle.
