Been through it all so many times, courtesy of Rick, Dutton and Jim White, even BB. You desperately want to believe it, but as you say it all sounds like speculation.
Hopes are high in some quarters that a 'dream ticket' fronted by Curbishley and Varney are about to buy the Club, backed up by Middle-Eastern money. I don't know if this is based on anything more than Curbs being seen at Wembley with some unfamiliar gents in suits, but after everything that's happened it sounds like such an impossibly optimistic scenario I simply can't believe it. By the way I've not read anything on CL lately. No particular reason, I just haven't been over there for quite a while.
There is no way that Duchatelet would sell to Varney. The Middle Eastern gentlemen were members of Betdaq and Rav Patel who is the Commercial Manager of Charlton. There is a certain amount of 2 plus 2 making five.
No no no Dick... they looked like the owners of PSG to me... I speculate that the Leeds story is a smokescreen and that they are really after us
what's worrying is that come saturday, bowyer aint manager anymore. technically. his contract runs out tomorrow.
It all depends on what is going on behind the scenes. Someone may have told Bowyer to go away and enjoy a well earned break, and he'll have a contract ready to sign when he gets back. Who knows? On the other hand, if after all the euphoria of sunday, there was silence from the club and he drifted off on his hols not knowing where he will be come august, a well placed offer from another club might well see him decide he'd get better backing elsewhere. I've seen some stuff on ITTV suggesting the contract is being held up by an imminent takeover. This might be true - most of us have no idea what's going on. But if it's simply lethargy on the part of RD and the minions, it could cause as much damage to the club as if Sunderland had got that last minute winner. I can see the logic in not signing contracts if the takeover is days away, though the sale itself doesn't seem any nearer from the rumours doing the rounds (Bob Whitehands tweet sounded more like an invitation than a confirmation) but if the takeover is simply 'possible', we should be planning for next season now. Other clubs are clearly well beyond the planning stage, and we seem to be asleep at the wheel, which given our recent history, is a worry. Anyone know when Bowyer is due back?
but Jim White said to Charlton fans last Friday that the takeover was very close now!.... was he fibbing?
it could be that he's still selling. he doesnt want to pay for the bumps in contracts so he wont agree to them. it could also be that he's waiting for the ST windfall and sky money before he goes.
Or Lardy summed it upin another thread when he said that he uses the excuse that he's selling to avoid giving out long-term contracts, when in fact his ridiculous asking price means he isn't really selling at all.
Lee Bowyer was still a caretaker manager until 6th September last year - four weeks into the season. If Bowyer's contract expires at the end of June, I will not be surprised at all if he is not offered something new until just a few days remain. After everything LB has done to mitigate Roland's image as an absolute disaster of an owner, for RD to treat him like this is disgraceful. I can understand Roland being mean spirited towards fans who have given him grief. But to casually disrespect his best employee* in SE7 is unbelievable. * by which I mean somebody who works hard day in, day out. Not De Turkey.
My judgement is that …. as @Clb74 is 'making the book' it is his decision as to the time of the book, so the bet is 10,000 ST sold at 1 minute to kick off prior to our first 2019/20 Championship game..... NOT at 31 July 2019 Judge AllHell presiding. @baraettmattesvensson please note.
