Johnathan pierce should stick to Robot Wars. Can't stand his over excited shouting at anything, throw ins, corners, blade of grass moving etc.

Nearly as bad was Barry Davies' ability to make any game as dull as.....he should stick to Tennis.

Then there's Lawro who loves the sound of his own ar.....erm I mean voice.

Peter Brackley and Mottie all the way for me. cheerful, knowledgable and have fun whilst commentating.

Wish I could get Solent up here. Better than watching Final Score with that Shemale Yorath on it.

Why do they call it final score at 2-30? Shoudl it be called 'getting close to starting'. lol

On ITV Tyldesley is quite good however I cannot stand former Saint Townsend. Looks so serious all the time. Thinks he knows everything and shouldn't be allowed to speak again until he can learn to say goal (singular.) Come on you must know what I mean there.

On Sky..........errm. Don't know. Never had it. Refused since day 1 in the nineties when money started to ruin the wonderful game.

I like them to be honest. The only thing that annoys me is when Merrington says What saints don't want to do now is...... because quite often just after he said it Saints do just that. Now when he does it i find myself shouting at the radio to tell Merrington to shut the **** up.

The commentary used for our highlights is lifted from the live game so neither commentator had the advantage of replays. Both penalty shouts could have gone either way as difficult to call..remember officials don't use replays (and I don't want them to because even then not clear). The theatricality of the dive won the second decision for Saints..just didn't look real.

I think they are brilliant, yes you can see on the highlights that they are not penalties but in the spur of the moment and probably from a less convenient angle they won't have seen it so clearly.

    With apologies to Basil Fawlty.

You have to give it to Merrington and co and that coming from someone that doesn't like either........They both love the Saints. Although listening to Merrington on the Radio on the way home after a game I actually wonder whether we have been watching the same match sometimes, such is his enthusiasm. When he talks about the tactics used or what they should or shouldn't have done in given situations I cringe. Especially when he is describing something that actually happened but was suggesting it should of happened. As I say very unsure if he is at the same match sometimes. Even after the game on Saturday he blamed Richardson for both goals, until the other guy said, "don't you mean Cork". So he Said yes, what did I say then? Oh I meant cork. So anyone who turned off prior to the question would go away blaming Richardson for the two goals. You can see the headlines being written in here can't you Richardson useless he was at fault for both goals Now isn't that how rumours start.......<laugh>

I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Merrington on business at the Dell in the early eighties when he was looking after our youth team players. he was a really caring guy with his feet on the ground wanting to do the best by the youngsters especially the one's who would not make it. His own career was cut short by injury and he was out on his ear having been looked after in every way by his club (which I think was Burnley). He brought through the best crop of youngsters in our club's history (and it wasn't thanks to Rupert Lowe as the Mail would have everyone believe).

Quite clearly he loves the club as much as any of us who post on here but he can also look at the game with a professional eye having been a player, coach and manager. I don't think any of us can say that and yet there are those who doubt his wisdom.

Having said all of that I find it very difficult to listen to a match on the wireless as I always get very, very tense as I can't see for myself what is happening. I therefore rely on the lovely Mrs Godders for regular updates shouted from the kitchen.

How can Forest feeling aggrieved against both us and Leicester be considered evening itself out? Evened things out for us maybe but I think Leicester benefitted on both occasions. I'm sure Forest will get some luck eventually - hopefully when they play Pompey and Brighton.

Merrington gets on my nerves, he is so blunt and says the most obvious things as if he's come up with it and nobody else can think of what to do

I listen to the commentatory at St M on my mobile, and they do tend to make some delightful gaffs, but it all adds to the fun.

You could always subscribe to Saints Player, doesn't cost much and is well worth it, especially for the video highlights. Plus you get to listen to the Solent commentary etc.

im sorry but i for one think life wouldnt be the same if i didnt hear "what saints dont want to do now is...." and "they need to push the defence higher up the pitch to put pressure on the other team/ they need to sit back a bit deeper for a bit and absorb the pressure so they can break"
its part and parcel of a saturday when i cant make it to SMS for me. Love it.

Merrington is a simpleton. Of course he has his feet on the ground, he's never achieved anything. I can't beleive he was ever made manager, I imagine for the same reson he works for solent. He's very cheap, apparently 1 wheel barrow of coal, 16 Newkie Browns and a copy of razzle will secure his services.

I think I've actually heard him say just that, and I've given the same answer at the time. He's says the what-Saints-don't-want-to-do-now announcement at least once a match. I actually look forward to it now.

I've not always listened to Radio Solent commentary. When I started to have to work at the ends of the week, The Saint radio station was still around, and Will Cope was the commentator. His co-conspirator was Jimmy Case. I liked Will, especially when his voice would break into a scream from his excitement. That would make me laugh. And if poor old Casey used to say... just a little bit... once, I think he said it a thousand times, during a match. The alternative, at the time, was Tony Husband on Solent. Anyone was better than him. A piece of chewing gum on the end of my shoe would have delivered better commentary, IMO. When The Saint folded it had to be Husband, but then very quickly it became Adam Blackmore and then Kris Temple as well. Much better. In fact brilliant. All of them aided and abetted by Whispering Dave [WDM].

I can't make up my mind who's better: the Adam Blackmore/WDM combo, or Kris Temple and WDM..?

I used to like The David Prutton Show. He would let slip a few home truths.

Denis Rofe filled in well when WDM was absent last season.
