Perhaps the council in Newcastle realise the benefits the football club brings to the city ? Where as in Hull we had Geraghty actually going to press saying Hull City being in the Premier League brought no benefits to the city.
Even claiming that 'they couldn't even sell out in the Premier League'

For the size of the City Newcastle gets plenty through the turnstiles and always have. They have a passionate support, council and owners. Maybe they still have turnstiles, I don’t know but I am certain they must have concessions. I would say they care too much not too have. I would take Ashley any day, he may be a bit of a knob but he cares about his club and supporters.

You think Mike Ashley cares about the supporters ? He's more than a bit of a knob

Maybe he is, but if our club had seen as much pumped into it by our ownersas he has put into Newcastle we would have remained in the PL.

True - but he still actually tries to run a football club like a football club. He still actively puts money in and tries to at least keep them stable.

My best mate is a Newcastle fan and every time I ask him why he and the rest of them hate MA so much, he can't give me a straight answer. I know he changed the name of St James' Park, but short of that I'm struggling to think what he's done that's caused so much hatred?

Apparently he has the temerity to run the club like a business.

It has to be fiscally sustainable and staff are accountable for their performances.

He refuses to simply give the club unlimited financial resources so they can buy every player in the world and win every league and Cup competition simultaneously, which, if their deluded supporters are to be believed, is the bare minimum they deserve.

    The **** him.

I believe he tries to spend as little money as he can on the club despite clearly having enough to improve them way more than they currently are, hence why Benitez is constantly getting rumoured with leaving due to transfer funds not being given.

Obviously not as horrendous as our plight or teams like Blackpool, but still a ****ing annoying thing for an owner to do. Also, that's my take, it might be complete bollocks tbf.

This gives a run down on what he has spent on transfers. Though, as it says, it doesn't take Into account what he had to put in to clear debts or what they have taken in.

Their actual transfer spend over the past twelve years is tiny...

£354m Spent on players since 2007

£322m Recouped selling players since 2007

£32m Net spend on players since 2007

    £2.6m Average annual net spend

Yes, but he paid off their debts. Of course it is hard to show one way or the other but I think he will have put more into Newcastle than our owners.

Not difficult as our owners have effectively put nothing in, only loaned the money at a good interest rate for Allamhouse.

The debt situation was a similar situation to ours, it was £76m when he took over and it's now doubled (though he doesn't charge any interest).

He takes money in other ways, Newcastle pay millions to Sports Direct, he also sold himself club owned land for £9m, then flogged it straight on at a massive profit, for a £120m luxury hotel/apartment/office development.

And ended up with a club, like us who don’t own their own ground, but seems is attractive enough for someone to be willing to pay £350 million for compared to ours which they can’t shift for a fraction of that price.
He may be a ****, but as a businessman yourself, who would you say is the better businessman, him or the self-proclaimed business geniuses in charge of the best run club in the football league.

He's definitely a ****, he knocked me for tens of thousands when he took over one of my customers several years back, but he's obviously done a far better job than the Allams, at least he's kept them competitive and always protected his investment.

Why do people on here keep saying the Council own Newcastle United's ground? They don't, they own the freehold for the Town Moor, on which St James' Park is built. The ground itself belongs to, and was paid for by, the club.

I'm not disputing that at all , it's obviously in his interests to keep Newcastle in the Premier league
I said he doesn't care about the fans as long as they turn up
