Can't see Diagne being real. At 27 he's entering his prime, but Whoscored describe him as an aerial threat with good finishing, but with poor passing, poor positional awareness and a poor defensive contribution. He doesn't sound like he'd slot into Pukki's role.

Galatasaray pay big wages, and he's come from China where the wages are often inflated too. I can't see the financial picture making sense either.

Never thought I'd be happy to see this, in his first season. So happy he's signed.

He's a target man with pace. Great technique, great finishing, great in the air.

The only thing that made me doubt his fit, is his work rate. He's not really a player who tracks back like Pukki does.

Why do you say he has pace? Is a 66 rating fast for a target man? I thought it sounded slow. Not arguing, FML, only asking.

I'm also very dubious about Diagne. He doesn't seem to fit SW/DF criteria - the lack of work rate, defensive skills and the fact that he's fallen out with his manager suggests that he isn't a team player either. Even if it does include his wages for the length of his contract €17m would seem to be a very risky signing for our present situation.

I could see Gayle as a possibility on loan. His style of play suits our setup and he can play on the left wing or behind the striker as well.

Salary expectation might be a problem and would he be happy not playing regularly???

tbh I would prefer Rhodes, we know he fits into the team ethics and he actually wants to be here <ok>

    BBC goss column.

Liverpool and Wales winger Harry Wilson, 22, has decided to leave Anfield in pursuit of regular first-team football after a loan spell at Derby. Wilson is wanted by clubs from the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga. (Mirror)

Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Southampton and Brighton are in the race to sign Wilson. (Star)

I think we could possibly sign both Rhodes AND Gayle for the same as they are quoting for Diagne!?!?!

THAT would be amazing! Rotate Gayle and Pukki every three/four games and have Rhodes as the super sub!

Oh and it would mean we could get rid of Srbeny!

I would love us to snap him up! Just who we need to give Buendia, Stiepermann and Hernandez some competition in those front 3 positions! Would be a massive upgrade on Cantwell too!

Unless Pukki were to show a 50%+ drop in his scoring rate I would be against rotation. His contribution in other areas is brilliant and I think that he is well ahead of Gayle. We should keep Rhodes if at all possible, Wednesday are not in a strong position on this and he wants to stay.

They all play less games in the PL too, so the need for resting or rotating is lessened. I think Gayle would cost too much and on top of that, there is a reason he keeps getting dropped by the promoted sides. I'm not sure he is PL quality, very good in the championship like Rhodes but, like Rhodes I wouldn't sign him, I don't think either adds enough competition to Pukki. That said, as ever if the price is right, they both constitute OK options.

    Bah!

I think Gayle would suit our style of play. He is very similar to Pukki; fast, good link up play and is a box fox. Rhodes is the same but without the pace.

It's all ifs at this stage, but surely we all agree Pukki needs better competition than just Rhodes and Srbeny?!

You're assuming of course that Gayle's game wouldn't improve as a result of Farke's coaching, in the same way as Pukki's did.

I would prefer Gayle on a loan to buy basis .
If he does well then try and get a permanent deal.

There are probably cheaper younger prospects our there on the continent.

We just need someone to cover if Pukki gets suspenjured
