European elections: Change UK riven by infighting over disastrous results

Anna Soubry, the Change UK spokeswoman, criticised her party leaderALAMY
Senior figures in Change UK have publicly clashed over the party’s tactics after it failed to return a single MEP in the European elections.
The party, which was formed as the Independent Group by breakaway Tory and Labour MPs in February, had a disastrous result, securing less than 4 per cent of the vote despite a big launch and several well-known candidates.
After the result Anna Soubry, the new party’s spokeswoman on Brexit, accused Heidi Allen, its interim leader, of “bizarre” behaviour for suggesting that their supporters should engage in tactical voting.
Ms Soubry, the former Tory business minister, said that “over 600,000 people went and voted for us, a genuinely new party”, which she claimed was an “extremely good” result.

He’s heavily odds-on to win and heavily odds-on to speak inappropriately to his kids’ female friends.

Had a quid on Lib Dems at 66/1. On the off chance.

It wasn't until this morning that I realised that the Today program on Radio 4 was a comedy rather than a serious news program. First Dianne Abbott - always good for a laugh. Apparently she is not aware of the EU election results. Hard to believe but that is the only explanation I can come up with for her inability to change the message on her auto-answer gob. And according to her it is going down well with the electorate and will sweep her and JC into power. Tears were running down my face with laughter.

Then Jeremy Hunt's solution to clinching a deal with Brussels is for all interests including SNP, DUP, ERG but excluding Labour (didn't quite explain why not) and Nigel Farage to go to Brussels as part of our negotiating team so that all views were represented and the Europeans could hear what they all really wanted. The solution to not agreeing a common solution in Parliament is that we go and have the monkeys' tea party and ensuing bunfight in front of Michel Barnier.
    Brilliant.

I can't wait for tomorrow's hilarious next instalment. Next. Sajid Javid perhaps?

He’s just a man who has done very well for himself in various forms of business, a natural and life long Tory, and in the process, despite being 4 years younger than me, has managed to make himself look ten years older.

He will be in trouble if any of the electorate of Peterborough ask him what the Brexit Party policy is on anything other than Brexit. Perhaps he’s allowed to make it up on the spot.

I see Farage is saying that the Brexit party should be represented at future EU negotiations that he says we should walk away from.

I would like to represent myself at those negotiations, if it’s ok with everyone else. I held a referendum of me and 100% of the turnout (which was 100%) supported this proposal, so it has cast iron legitimacy.

Now I just need to work out what I want.

He's a clever bean isn't he? He knows that, that isn't possible and wouldnt happen even if there were any more negotiations (which there isn't, as he is well aware). Doesn't matter though because it's a good soundbite to further galvanize his rabid supporters.

Rabid sums it up quite well. I’d have also accepted deranged, demented and brainwashed.

Anyone who seriously cannot see the Brexit Party is nothing more than a protest vote is extremely dum imo. They have no policies at the moment and I believe will have to wise up quick if anyone thinks that a no deal would be a easy thing to accomplish then again turn your lights on.

    It will never happen

I hope they keep it all going around in circles until common sense finally kicks in

Pretty sure everyone on here that voted for the Brexit party said that it was a protest vote.

That doesn't make everyone who voted that way "rabid".
That's just lazy, immature, panicked language.

More people voted to revoke Article 50 than voted for the Brexit Party about 60/40 and imo eventually that what will happen whichever way it is delivered

Both are protest vote col in form

Currently it still divided for sure but the Brexit party is not the will of the people ... it will be 60/40 I maintain that and I fully expect us to win and eventually stay in Europe as a strong leader... only once this mess and it’s story is told will the U.K. take back it’s strong position with the EU

Agree 100% it’s the Anglo Saxon way we are the masters of blame and protest talk

Easier to push responsibility than to take it imo so the lazy stuff won imo ... They will fail when it comes to actually producing sound politics

We are desperate to put things right and restore the U.K. from a joke position and we will

I agree with Ellers on the fact that other European countries haven’t done this yet . Ellers used to quote how unstable some countries were ... he was always right but wrong they simple haven’t got as bad as the U.K. had got

There isn’t much any of us can do until the next phase is complete imo

I am genuinely curious how you arrive at a 60/40 vote against Brexit in the EU results.

Perhaps he has been invited to take party in Strictly in September and therefore no longer gives a toss.
