well there is always the "its a local league for local folk" aspect and yes in a lot of ways PL isn't the "best" but of the top leagues it is the most competitive.
The fans have tried to buy the club in the past - Share Liverpool FC - I put my name in there with them. I'd prefer this type of ownership and I hope the fans would voice their concerns if FSG tried to sell to any type of unscrupulous owner.
Perhaps this was possible when FSG bought us for £300m but the way things are going, we’ll be sold for £3 billion in a couple of years. Our loose change simply won’t be enough!
No body will buy a club for that. Nobody smart anyway. The gobshits looking at Chelsea might but you can get a club like villa for 150 or something complete with stadium and the toss money at it
A few clubs the setup is there just throw money at squad. leeds and sunderland probably get for similar not sure.
Villa apparently already have the 3rd richest owners in the prem. https://the18.com/soccer-news/aston-villa-new-owners-net-worth
FSG did just that - in fact they didn’t even throw money at it; it’s been mostly self financing, stand aside. If Chelsea get their reported £2.5b then £3b in a couple of years time is not out of the question at all really, is it? Either way, the point is that it’s gone way beyond fan ownership.
Dunno mate but there's a certain critical mass that there's got to be a law of diminishing returns. Can England bear another mega rich club which is no 7... then another... no 8?? Like..... the English league is one thing but surely at some point the return in terms of whatever glory or exposure or bragging becomes not worth the cash. If every prince in the uae has a club say,.. and they are doing it to have bragging rights cos the biggest yacht is no longer enough..... what's the point
Why aren't they buying Real Madrid, Barca, Juve, AC Milan, Bayern? Bloody hell, AC Milan. Just look at that club's history and where it's been for the last 10 years and then what an Arab billionaire could do with it.
Imo they don't want clubs with history cos it is then the club and not them and their egos. I'd not be shocked if some **** buys Charlton or leyton orient and spends a billion on them.. You are right though. An Italian or Spanish club would be far easier to get to cl.
From an investment perspective, I agree. But when you have a billionaires ego, anything is possible. Like I said, if Chelsea get sold for £2.5b as is mooted, anything is possible. LFC is one of the biggest brands in world football and to put things into perspective, there are far richer sheiks than those in charge at City.
More money in prem. mid table prem clubs make as much if not more than most teams in Europe bat the very elite
What is the biggest footballing franchise in the world. Ladies and gents, I give you the English premier league. Italian football is like the Championship but with no prospect of ever getting into the Premier league. That said, the next big thing will be a European super league. When all of the big boys are privately owned by the super rich - guess what will make them more money, give them more exposure...perhaps not now but every era has its time....
They need to have scope for building enough of a fanbase. When looking at Chalrton and Leyton I can't help but think of Hearts being an absolute disaster - granted it is the SPL but those two clubs kind of compare. Needs to be the right balance between fanbase, commercial reach and the potential to compete at the highest level - Leeds being a good example.
Yeh that is definitely the downside for Serie A, but then imagine how easy it would be. Buy the best players in the world, increase fanbase, eclipse Juve and top Serie A season in season out and guarantee CL footy every year and the potential for trophies is far easier. Having said that, hasn't worked out so well for PSG but then the club needs to be run properly on and off the pitch.
So it was sound when Man Utd were outspending most, if not all, clubs. Now the shoe is on the other foot its ruining the league?
PSG have minimal exposure outside of France bar half a dozen CL games a year. This is all about reach. Sometimes a player can give you that. Ronaldo, Messi......Salah and Mane for us have extended our reach. Pogba for Utd, etc etc We play to sell out crowds (I mean the premier league), charging much more for the privilege and create the best atmospheres and score the most goals.... German clubs will not be sold like English clubs - they have strict acquisition laws and actually look after their fans. Imo, they do it the right way......but it doesn’t sell like the premier league though!
