At last, we head into the final stretch of another season - probably hoping that we'll at least make the Championship Playoffs next season!

    Previews

    Mustyfrog
    [PLD:2 W:0 L:2 High Score: 10pts]
    vs
    TafftheFish [PLD:3 W:2 L:1 High Score: 5pts]

Both @mustyfrog & @taffthefish have very different experiences of the Playoff's - Taff has won both of his previous two ties and won promotion whilst Musty has lost both of his ties at the first stage. Musty, a bit like Liverpool, is probably wondering what more he has to do to get out of Div II after a titanic haul of 25 CR's but at least he now has the chance to put his failed experiences of 2014 & 2015 to use! Following his cruel relegation on the final day of last season, Taff has just about managed to limp into the Playoffs. Despite the history, surely the 26 point differences between the pair should make Musty favorite?

    Sayer77 [PLD:9 W:6 L:2 High Score: 9pts]
    vs
    Jay-Rede [PLD:0 W:0 L:0]

Our 2nd tie is a battle between two former top tier members, both hoping for a return to the promised land. @Jay-Rede's previous promotion was earned as Div II Champion, so he had never before had the pleasure of a Playoff campaign. His only top tier experience ended in a straight relegation so Jay will be hoping for the chance to improve on that! That will mean getting past @Sayer77... who has suffered a poor season (by his Championship winning standards) following a narrow miss on the automatic places & the mauling from @Dai Jones in last season's Playoffs. Will Sayer make avoid the same shock defeat as last time and make the most of the opportunity to escape the 2nd tier for a second time?

    Ties
Due to the awkward timings of the Premier League season ending, this years Div II Playoff semi-finals have been reduced to two legs (rather than the historical 4!)

West Bromwich Albion vs Aston Villa (Tuesday 14th May @ 20:00)
Leeds United vs Derby County (Wednesday 15th May @ 19:45)

    Scoring System

Predict a scoreline and scorers for each match based on the following.

Result - Depending on how accurate your prediction is to the result of the match as shown in the table below. To qualify for points your prediction has to match with the result (Win/Draw/Lose) of the game

please log in to view this image

The term 'Accuracy' refers to how many goals you are away from the result of the match. So if i predicted 2-1 and the result was 3-1 the Accuracy would be 1 and I would get 3 points. If I predicted 5-0 and the result was 2-0 the Accuracy would be 3 and I would get 1 points. A CS still returns you 4 points (an Accuracy of 0) and now it is possible to predict the right result and get no points <yikes>

    Goal Scorers
    - Name the scorers (From both sides) to match the prediction to a maximum of three (1 point for each to a maximum of 3 points)

First Goal Scorer - Indicate the player you think will score first (1 point) Even if you predict no goals, select a player.

Tiebreaker - In the case of a draw, the tiebreaker will be used to decide the winner. It will be the total number of goals for both sides over the two ties. Closest to the actual number goes through.

    Example
Lets use last season's home fixture against Barnsley as an example (Hopefully you can remember how that went 2-1 City)

Player 1 predicts 4-1 to Cardiff with Paterson (First Goalscorer), Zohore & McBurnie scoring
Player 2 predicts 2-0 to Cardiff with Bamba (FS) and Hoilett scoring

Player 1 would get 2 points for the result and an additional 3 points for predicting Patterson to score the first goal and the correct Barnsley scorer. Total = 5
Player 2 would get 3 points for the result and none for the scorers. Total = 3

Perhaps a bad example but hopefully that is relatively clear! Any questions please ask & feedback is welcome!

Please PM your predictions! Any questions feel free to ask! The Capaldi Cup Final between @Barry Tiger & @ccfcremotesupport will follow! <ok>

    Yep <wah>

The results from our 2 leg semi finals -

    Mustyfrog 0 - 1 TafftheFish

Despite @mustyfrog's lack of predictions, it requires goals from Dallas to provide @taffthefish with the single point needed to squeeze him over the line and into the final. The theme of last night's game was that all three of our predictor expected Leeds to win easily and not score (let alone net 4 times! <laugh>) so not many points were scored. Commiserations to Musty but if he actually predicted he probably would have won! Taff's unbeaten record of 3 from 3 continues! :emoticon-0165-muscl

    Sayer77 0 - 2 Jay Rede

@Sayer77 does not like the Playoffs. Backed both of the losing sides and selected none of the scorers from the winning team, Sayer is once again dumped out at the first Playoff hurdle and the dream of a return to the Top Flight will have to wait for another season. @Jay-Rede predictions weren't much better but crucially he backed West Brom to win the 2nd tie and will progress to compete in his first ever final!

That means that our Div II Playoff Final is

TafftheFish (5) vs Jay Rede (6)

    Predicting

Man City vs Watford (Sat 18th May @ 17:00)
Aston Villa vs Derby County (Mon 27th May @15:00)

Following today's Playoff final victory for Villa, we have the final results of ESPL Season!

    Div II Playoff Final

    Jay-Rede 3 - 4 TafftheFish

It is @taffthefish that completes a straight return to Div I by just about managing to squeeze past @Jay-Rede! As both backed a 2-0 Villa win for today's game it crucially came down to Jay's missed prediction from the first leg. Taff manged to pick up a point for Sterling's goal in the FA Cup rout of Watford and that was enough to decide the tie. Congrats Taff!

    Capaldi Cup Final

    Barry Tiger 3 - 4 Ccfcremotesupport

Despite missing the first leg @ccfcremotesupport pulls off a stunning comeback to lift this season Capaldi Cup! @Barry Tiger had managed take a 3 point lead from the FA Cup final but picked up nothing from this afternoon's match, allowing Remote to sneak the cup away with the 4 point for predicting a 2-1 Villa win! A great comeback win for Remote but BT has now lost back to back CC finals <wah>

    Well done all! <ok>

    Well done Remote and Taff.

The Villa Derby match was a tricky one to predict.

Thank you again Sheepy for keeping us all in order and see you all again next season
