Not too impressed by Siyarafina there, won as she was entitled to on form but shes not the most impressive physically and didnt look that strong at the finish, looks about 112-114 filly at the minute. Cant knock her too much as it was never in doubt and not easy to win by far off a slow pace like that, but as the Frenchie said, dont think we have seen a superstar. She doesnt appear to be in the Treve/Zarkava bracket.
Pretty cosy win for Siyarafina, she has that rare ability to quicken that others do not have. I thought she looked a bit short of cherry ripeness today and surely she is the one that they all have to beat in the Prix Diane. She was cut from 3/1 to 6/4 after the race and there looked no reason to see why she need drop back in trip. Platane had a bad day at the office. She pulled hard early and then got a silly hold up ride from her jockey, even at her best she would never have won from where she was turning in and she just ran like a drain after not settling. In comparison Siyarafina was in the right place and always going well, She and Persian King seem the clear class acts in France this season.
She's not in their class but she keeps winning and that was cosy today really. I still feel there is more to come and in a poor era for French talent she deserves to be a warm favourite for the Prix Diane. Can't see her as an Arc filly but she won't be cacking her pantaloons about the 3YO fillies this year.
She will have more to fear from whatever Gosden and Obrien send over id imagine, as you say, been a poor few years for the French. Id still have a slight doubt about the trip in the Diane, they ran the mile in 1:43 there so it was pretty much a sprint finish at this level, the Diane is usually more strongly run and its an extra half furlong, the draw also comes into when there is no standout. Deserves to be fav at this stage but wouldnt be interested in backing her at 7/4 just now.
curragh,4 25: GUINEAS im in a bit of a dilemma here.should i stay loyal to my filly pretty pollyanna,or back FAIRYLAND once more?ive a slight tendency to go with the latter, despite deep concerns about the distance.but the same can be said on the bell filly.but maybe fairyland has a vital fitness edge, and if ridden a bit more conservatively, she might get the trip better.thoughts?
Only 4 winners of the Saint Alary have followed up in the Diane in the last 30 years, Zainta, Stacelita, Sarafina, Laurens. Quite surprising stat.
just a quick word on uttoxeter 4 30: you say what is just about the form horse here, but hes taken a big hike in the weights for his clear cut win last time out.hes much respected, but i think,EXXARO is well treated,if on a going day.hes surely not one for the mort-gage,but on the plus side, his last win came here last summer, off this mark.so,if all falls into place for him today, major shout..
Had a bit on Hermosa in the fillies mile last year, looks like one of those typical Obrien fillies who comes to the fore and keeps progressing, seems to be a bit of bias on the track though, coincidence that two impressive winners make all on the inside in both Guineas?
That was a shocker!! East was never in the race with a chance, and finished stone last. It will be interesting to hear the connections post race comments. I doubt she will be seen in any of the Summer races - perhaps she will be kept for an Autumn campaign. Oh dear!
Fair comment but I can't see any filly we've seen in the UK or Ireland getting anywhere near Hermosa over a mile to 9f. To have what seemed a fair 1000G winner generally available at 3-1 right up to the off was a steal. Pretty Pollyanna ran a good race but was too free and easy for the first 3f. She may get nearer next time but how can she make up 5 lengths? Can she stay further? Maybe, but the dam is by Pivotal and the granddam by Warning. That would say 10f could be within her capability. She has now finished 2 Guineas very strongly.
