Just seen all angles covered on Saintsplayer and have seen the "truth". Fox gets the ball in the first half, no penalty and Derbyshire dived in the second, yet both Blackmore and Merrington claimed Saints were lucky. I depend on them to tell me whats going on as i'm "stuck" in Mallorca and suspected that sometimes when they waffle on about the price of pies n who's texted what that there might be something going on on the pitch, Saintsplayern has proved this. They were waffling on about **** just as Rickie scored the equaliser, I first knew we'd kicked off because of the crowd cheering the goal!! it's not cricket, I wish they'd sometimes shut the **** up or maybe just commentate on the game a bit more. Ho hum, never mind, I'd be really peed off if we'd lost, it would've been they're fault. COYR
Merrington kept saying richardson was playing, plus he said richardson was at fault for the goals lol.
Been their fault if we lost? They weren't playing you know! I like them both, best commentators on there + a good pair. Love the way Blackmore loses his voice by half-time every week!
I also think their good. Merrington is great to listen to just because of his support and enthusiasm.
I tend not to have to listen to them much. But when I do they are often talking about something else as we attack/come close to scoring which is very annoying. And why do Radio Solent always focus so much on Cricket? We're listening in for the football commentary on the Saints game, not for an interruption for the latest cricket scores from Edgbaston FFS.
I reckon Radio Solent have two brilliant radio commentators in Adam Blackmore and Kris Temple. Laurence Herdman can stick with Pompey, ta. Blackmore and Temple convey the excitement of the match really well, and of course, it being Saints, they get a lot of practice. Dave Merrington is great too, due mainly to his habit of whispering loudly when conveying something really important to the listeners, the inevitable clean sheet, and the what-Saints-don't-want-to-do-now announcement. He also gets wrapped up in the excitement too, which is great. We all know that local radio station commentators are meant to be a bit biased [well, more than a bit] in favour of the local team. So, several seasons back, it was always a dull thud to know that Tony Husband was going to commentate on a Saints match, because he was so neutral, he actually sounded more pleased when the opposition scored. Any opposition too.
I think they're absolutely brilliant. I would much rather listen to Merrington's enthusiasm, which sometimes means he gets a few details wrong than some boring commentator who gets every name correct in monotone. Just for information I listened to the baggies player for the pre season friendly as solent werent providing any coverage (you can use your saintsplayer login) and the commentators on there really were dull!!
Maybe because it's the cricket season still..? Give it a few weeks. When they talk about something else, it is usually because there has been a lull in proceedings. They pick up again as soon as the proper action gets going.
You can be a commentator that knows the names of players and can describe events on the pitch without being monotone. That fat guy that was on Late Kick Off is a testament to that. Great commentator.
Jonathan Pierce. He fronted the first series. I wonder if they'll bring LKO back in January, given the BBC cuts..?
Eughhh, can't stand Merrington. His voice is so lowly and just states obvious points all the time throughout the games. But thats my opinion.
I'd rather two people that are passionate about Saints than that Andy Moon bloke who does Bournemouth game and did our Torquay cup game who sounds about 16 years old and was clueless on Saints.
I don't doubt that Just saying what I would prefer given the option. I agree Jonathan Pierce is a great commentator, would love to see LKO back.
Everyone is allowed their opinion. I think the first penalty shout is just hopeful and the second one is impossible to tell from the replays but Derbyshire went down theatrically. Forrest may feel aggrieved, however we also did about the Sol Bamba/Lambert own goal and Leicester in turn for the interesting decisions that got Forrest out of jail against them a few weeks ago. So the whole circle has already evened itself out!
I have a self-proclaimed love for Dave Merrington. He is an absolute genius with words. And as SecondStain pointed out, his loud whispering when something he notices something is brilliant. Kris Temple and Adam Blackmore are very good too.
