It isn’t a case of the shops being open until 11pm but the way it is configured. All the eating places are down on side so they can remain open independent of whether all the shops are open. Most have outside seating areas as well. Makes things flexible and keeps people in the area.
Some loveley bars in Richmond, love the cricketers on the green & the roof top bar over looking the Thames
Once bumped into Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) in the Victoria in Richmond (the one going up the hill). Well, not literally bumped into or I wouldn't be around to tell the tale, but he popped in for a Guiness and had a chat.
Funny to think that Richmond was the centre for the interest in the blues in the early 1960s rather than a round down inner city area in a working class city.
What's astonishing is that Norwich, Bridlington, Gloucester and now Richmond have never been voted UK City of Culture?
Neither has anywhere else except Londonderry/Derry and Coventry. Bridlington has a problem in being in any thing for cities in that it isn’t a city.
There are. It is the actual centre of Hull that is a let down. Not that it is alone in that in that regard in city centres in this country.
I go to the Old Town or the marina I do the same when I visit other Cities or towns I pick the recommended spots. I don't see the point going to areas I don't like seems mashosistic to do so. I would only end up with a negative opinion of the place but not getting a true reflection of the best a place has to offer. I also like the Marina and the work done on Humber Street
Doesn’t matter how good or bad Brid is regarding .City of Culture, it isn’t a city. The centre is a mess, as is the approach and around the station. The council seem to have a strategy to make it worse with half cocked developments and nonsensical one way systems. Fortunately I live in the north of the town away from visitors but only 5 minutes walk from the cliffs and beach and don’t need to go into the centre very often. I would happily move but the wife doesn't want to. If I win the lottery I will have to up sticks on my own.
