Iraq moved on to Afghanistan and into the middle east. We are still waging the same war. Iraq was the easy target at the start of things. "won" quite quickly however we are still in Afghanistan and Iraq was subsequentially "retaken" in some regions by Islamic State. Also to figure into the "perception of war" subject matter. Thatcher and Churchill are (seemingly) remembered for wars defending their own territory. The Iraq war was not "defending our own territory." Big difference there. Look at things like Vietnam, Korea, Middle East. All looked at badly. WW1/2, Falklands looked at positively. The latter were all defending our/their own territories.

Nah, two separate wars. The war in Iraq was against a professional army and government with its own objectives. It wasn't at all about defeating terror. No part of Iraq was retaken by the regime.
If one of the new proposed pms actually say right what I want to do is revoke what has happened and have another referendum.....He she will be looked on as a hero.......
I don't think we're supposed to be able to revoke article 50 just in order to buy time whilst the country gets asked again. I think any revocation needs to be made in good faith with the intention being that we resume our position in the EU for the foreseeable future
I can truly see this as happening......there is no other way..........All main parties wanted us to remain.......I'm fully convinced that will now happen!! They have all played a blinder to achieve this......and brought the country to its knees achieving that.......always assuming that is what actually happens.
I think you'll find that I said revoke!!! Which means we will not be leaving in the foreseeable future.......The EU would welcome this believe me........
I would suggest that with this would come a promise of another referendum some time in the future say 5 or 10 years........Woudnt you go for that to get us out of this problem.?? Edit perhaps add a few caveats saying a majority of XYZ %
I wouldn't expect another referendum ever, until we have a viable solution to the Irish border problem. If you promise one in 5 or 10 years, you just invite pressure and division for that entire period. If we revoke, it needs to be final - just the mere promise of another referendum puts the idea that we are revoking with good intentions in doubt imho
I mean, there's a distinct possibility that the Irish border wouldn't have been a problem for much longer if a Brexit deal passed, heh. Polling certainly suggested that a referendum to reunify Ireland had an increasing likelihood of passing, and unlike Brexit it would have been binding under the GFA.
One thing I would say is that any revocation has to be coupled to a commitment to reform the EU and make it more palatable to even the Imps of this world. Along with that commitment, a solemn promise to end the inequality, poverty, and disempowerment that made many people vote Leave as a protest against the Establishment. The Establishment as it stands must be swept away, never to return, If the whole Brexit shambles, going back years to the rise of UKIP, has taught us anything, it’s that we are a divided nation, and that rebuilding our society from the bottom upwards has to come second only to tackling climate change in our priorities.
