Yeah I've never got the obsession with transfer fees really. It's not my money so I don't care and none of us have a clue what the budget is. Only time I criticise is if we spend money on an area of the team I don't feel needs strengthening and don't bring someone in elsewhere (Gunn last season for example when maybe the money could've been better used on a striker/defender), but again I don't know if that was because we didn't have the money or if our targets weren't available
Also sounds like that Daniel James guy could be going out on loan to Brighton once he signs for United
I haven't seen too much of him but if he is a winger then I don't see it definitely meaning they are off. We would have Wilson, Redmond and Sims (probably forgetting someone obvious) so if both of them were to leave we would be light on the wings I would say
It makes perfect sense that Utd would loan out James, after signing him. It's what they should have done with Zaha, rather than stick him on their bench not getting any football (and in doing so, allow negativity to fester between Zaha and Utd). Buy him for £15m now and then loan him out for a couple of years, before then integrating him. Rather than let a lesser PL side sign him for £15m now, and then have to pay £45m to buy him in two years time. I wouldn't be surprised if we see that tactic happening more and more in future years.
Wouldn't really class him as a winger. If we sell Boufal/Ely then we will need to replace them. Think it is far more likely we get that Djenepo or however it is spelt than Wilson though, reckon Liverpool will loan him out again to a PL team before selling him. Ideally Derby if they do get promoted
Yeah, we pretty much know already Ely won't make it. So any signing would replace him, yet we still need one more in the attacking mid/winger role. Whether that will be Boufal or someone new remains to be seen
Sims will also count towards a place next season, and I expect him to stick around. He effectively replaced Moi last season so one more winger I'd expect.
I can't see that at all. The plan there is to fill the squad with hungry, hard working players and get rid of some of those who take it for granted. James is a part of that. Zaha is a very different character, and Man Utd are in a very different place to then.
James is nowhere near ready to play for a club the size of Man United. He would definitely need to get PL experience at a smaller club first.
I'm astounded that the recent big money signings have all pretty much been a disaster. Boufal Carillo Moi (clasie) How much did that cost? Granted we got rid of the recruitment side of things but it's still scary.
How much do you think we have in our budget? We need 4-5 players and certainly don’t think we will spend £100m do you?
Probably circa £50m plus wages at about £3m a year each We certainly won’t get anything like that back if we can find anyone to buy them sadly
That's why we should get back to cutting out the middle man and produce our own. Tbf Ralph has pretty much intimated that that will be the route we are taking from now on by and large.
