The final two qualifying slots would be decided in the proposed mini-tournament played in the November before the World Cup as a test event, a move that puts the Confederations Cup's long-term future at risk. The idea was announced Thursday as part of the FIFA Bureau's proposal to award each of the six continental confederations extra places at the World Cup, which will expand starting in 2026 when North America is the expected host. UEFA is set to get the three extra guaranteed slots it wanted, bringing its total to 16 qualifying slots. The proposal also increases Africa to nine, Asia to eight, South America to six, North America to six and Oceania to one guaranteed slot. Excluding Europe, the other five confederations would send one team for the playoffs. The World Cup host continent would provide the sixth playoff team. Before coming into effect, the FIFA Council must approve the proposal on May 9 in Bahrain. https://www.apnews.com/3d820c8cce96...lFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP_Sports
I'd rather see two of our places in Europe given to Oceania. It's supposed to be the WORLD cup. Also harsh that Africa get more than Asia, in my opinion.
Which teams actually qualify from Asia and North America? It seems strange to give those continents so many when South America only get 6. Off the top of my head Argentina Brazil Uruguay Chile Colombia Ecuador Peru Honduras Some very good to decent footballing nations. Moving over to Asia South Korea Japan And then North America Mexico It does seem odd to me?
Honduras is in North America. Paraguay, Venezuela and Bolivia are the other ones from South America, although the last two are already eliminated. In any case, the World Cup would be a bag of **** if the same teams qualified all the time. It gives smaller nations nothing to play for and increases the gap between levels. I can't wait for the International League that's going to replace friendlies. Asia has some decent countries, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Iran and Saudi Arabia are doing well this year. Syria also making a push to qualify. North America is usually Mexico, USA and Costa Rica, maybe Honduras and Panama. Canada are **** and the other countries are really too small to compete, save perhaps for T and T and Jamaica, but there's no call for them because they're ****e. Oceania have it rough, they have to win a play off, then another playoff against the 5th place team from South America. Which at the minute is Argentina. And it's always New Zealand. Always.
Asian group top teams/world ranking Iran 33 South Korea 40 Japan 51 Australia 55 Uzbekistan 61 United Arab Emirates 68 Qatar 84 China 88
Any more than 6 from South America would be a piss take, that's already half of them, plus an extra one in the ****ty play off, the World Cup is going to be ****ing ****
Better footballing nations there than ****ing Uzbekistan, Qatar and China. May as well let San Marino go to the finals. I hope these **** teams play each other in an early round and eliminate each other.
South korea and japan have **** teams last few years One thing is for sure mr hat Fiji will not be at world cup 2018 nor will china or uzbekiststan or iraq or jamaica sir South ireland and north irelamd both have good chances of making it Wales won't be there England are there Scotland no Poland and germany yes New zealand were the only undefeated team in world cup 2010
Times Sport @TimesSport Exclusive: Fifa abandons plans to expand Qatar World Cup to 48 teams and play games in neighbouring countries.
Honduras officially the Republic of Honduras (Spanish: República de Honduras), is a country in Central America.
Central America is a region in the continent of North America Countries of North America... ****s' sake, both of you are correct. Now stop it. Central America is a part of North America - but using the term on it's own isn't incorrect either: it's like saying 'Eastern Europe' or 'South East Asia'. Those ones are fine to say, why not this one? On the subject of the tweet OLM posted... ****ing good! While you're at it FIFA, you should consider abandoning Qatar as hosts too... I ****ing wish.
