I think Schumis early pit stop caught McLarren a bit with surprise as their own tyres were still drivable. MSC's tyres went of the cliff only a few corners before he pitted and Button passed him just Before the pit entry. Mclarren didn't have time to react, and button was ahead so he pitted first one lap after MSC and lewis had to wait yet another lap..

Soo easy to blame and criticize with hindsight.. I think McLarren did a pretty good job overall this weekend.

so it was you who claimed that !! I knew somebody did! Never mind dream on - one day the top6 or so on the grid will all crash into one another and you might then be correct.

I also said Adrian Sutil would win in Belgium, Vitaly Petrov would win in Canada, Kamui Kobayashi would win at a wet silverstone etc.

They would have had a close enough result if Nico was not side swiped.

My custard pie award goes to McLaren who seemed all-at-sea for the whole Monza weekend. As others have said, they shot themselves in the foot repeatedly:

• An ad-hoc rear wing which was too big then required a reverse gurney-flap to take downforce off! How inefficient can you get?!
• Under-gearing their cars gave them little opportunity to take advantage of DRS, as well as one of their biggest strengths: a very good engine.
• Leaving their cars (particularly Hamilton) fighting a futile battle with the longer geared Schumacher who was always able to re-pass unless he dropped behind by more than a second - which Button amazingly managed to do, largely due to Schumacher having to then defend against Hamilton.
• Hamilton having a nap at the Safety re-start
• Not kicking up a fuss about Schumacher's driving, such that Ross Brawn out-manoeuvred them again with some smart thinking.
There's probably more but that's more than enough…

not so much a 'custard pie moment' - more an inquest prior to a sacking?

I think Monza somehow typifies McLaren's lacklustre performance over the past couple of years, but it may be that appointing Sam Michael to fill what I consider to be the vital gap in their management - which they attempted to overcome through numbers if not sheer will-power - will address their woes.

Then again, I think they would be wise to consider the remaining races of this season a dress-rehearsal for a 2012 campaign that will need to see them back to full health, with a properly integrated and vitally important new member.
