I think that like the players had a clause that if they went up there will be a rise, this time around there will be a drop if we get relegated. I know that wasn't always the case last time around. I wonder if that 20 million includes all the payments going forward. Most signings have some up front and then drip fed over the next 12-24 months plus goal scoring clauses, league appearances etc.
Heartbreaking - especially as it's for the 'contributions' of two failed players, but it was presumably written in at the time they came here. Plus you can bet that there will have been similar clauses when Madison left. Maybe money for Norwich after say, his first call up for England, as an example. Plus normally a sell on clause if he goes from LCFC for more than they paid us.
List of PL players now or soon to be out of contract. Speroni? Adrian?? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48170293
Andy Carroll or Mario Balotelli to beef up our striking options! Anyone? What could possibly go wrong? Bah!
Ryan Giggs has brought Thompson into his Wales Squad for their upcoming internationals, they have a few absentees. Could be a good opportunity for the boy to get some game time before a really good pre-season. If it all works out he could be like a new signing
The rumor that Naismith was on £45-50K was refuted by the club, as his wages were just under £40k, similar to that we're paying Rhodes. I can understand that Everton and Wigan negotiated add-ons should we gain promotion, just as we did for Madison, the Murphys and Pritchard. It's normal business. Edit: I've just seen that we'll pay a six figure sum to Sheffield Wednesday as a Rhodes bonus for gaining promotion.
MB has added a timely piece to the discussion about whether we need a new DM for the PL: https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/report-card-tom-trybull-2018-19-patience-virtue-1-6055959 Trybull had to wait for his chance, but when it came he certainly took it: "Trybull found such a good rhythm, protected his defence and slotted into the deep quarter-back role so well. His presence and security on the ball allowed full-backs Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis to do what they needed to higher up the pitch; allowed Emi Buendia and Marco Stiepermann to come deeper into the pockets of space between the lines. Maturity in dealing impeccably with a season of real ebbs and flows; adapting his undoubted quality and pedigree into an efficient and effective, first-choice holding midfielder for Farke's Championship title-winners - this is where Tom Trybull should take immense credit." His ability to break up attacks, win the ball hold on to it and move it out of defence makes him a really effective holding midfielder. With Tettey and Thompson behind him, it'll be interesting to see if DF thinks we need a new DM.
https://readnorwich.com/2019/05/21/norwich-eyeing-move-for-liverpool-defender-conor-masterson/ Another youngster to perhaps add to the mix? Bah!
I was puzzled by this one but there is a sort of logic to it if he's considered an upgrade on Raggett. Klopp's Liverpool plays a similar 'Dortmund style' football and presumably he's adept at playing out from the back. At 20 (21 in September) he could provide useful backup at CB without taking up a squad place. He probably also counts as 'homegrown' as he's been at Liverpool since he was 16.
He can't exactly be a prodigy or they would be retaining him to be loaned out to FLDC or A N Other but many a player has been dropped by the big boys and gone on to have a good career. Farke might just be the man to get the best out of them. I think Raggett will be jettisoned, if Godfrey continues on his upward trajectory, he could easily be the next to step up to the first team in a year or two. Bah!
I may have just offended HITC by telling them their source was even more unreliable than their own reputation when they quoted the Mail as reporting that we had bid £12M for Kelvin Phillips from Leeds!
City have just released their Retained/released list https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2019/may/norwich-city-retained-list-2019/ No surprise seeing Wildschut, Naismith & Jarvis among the major players being released, wonder if we will see Rhodes back if the price is right
I saw that, SC, and had to read it twice to be sure I was reading it right. I don't get it, but am very happy for Louis.
I think, judging from the little we’ve heard about him, that he’s really highly rated in the u23 league when he’s been fit it’s difficult for us though as he’s had no first team experience and so we (or at least I) have always assumed he’s not really up to it yet I trust Farke and co. on the youngsters though - he’s got a proven eye for it - and frankly I think unless you’re the sort of fan who can make it to the youth league games then it’s very difficult to judge, even with managers like Hughton who (rightly or wrongly) came for some stick for failing to bring youth team players forward
