I noticed a rumour that we were linked to some player valued at 50 million...now I accept we may pay in the 20s, perhaps even 30 million, but 50!! Someone is having a laugh.
£15m as well which seems pretty cheap nowadays. We obviously wouldn't have had a chance with United involved but still seems a relatively low price.
There goes another young mans career who is more interested in chasing his fortune than his footballing future he had pretty much all the big six wanting him and he choses Utd who would be the last one that he should go to. Surely Spurs or Liverpool who give their kids a chance in a stable environment would be better but I guess Utd simply offer more money
Off. Having written that, l can literally count the awe-inspiring moments literally on one hand. He has talent, no doubt, but something just isn't right with him. RH might be able to get something from him, but it's the reported dressing room issues we do not need. With our lack of quality, we need great team spirit to get us going, his presence would seem to place that at a risk.
IF Ralph decides to have a look at him then I hope that the fans treat it as a fresh start without the baggage of the past. JWP, Redders, Bedders and Oriel are good examples of how working with a new Manager can change perspectives and Boufal could turn out be the creative spark that we have lacked, he clearly never suited Pellegrino's gameplan and fell out with Hughes as soon as he took over and was promptly shipped out.
Daft comment. Methinks you just don't like Utd. They have a good track record of playing their youngsters. Rashford and Lingard are both youth products. Look out next season also for Angel Gomes, and Mason Greenwood. Two more Utd youth players who are tipped for success. And they are also the team who won the league in the 90's a few times by playing their academy players, of course.
He always worked hard though, but made poor decisions. If I was his coach I’d fancy working with that.
Can’t disagree with any of that Romsey, however ... I’d fancy ralph to have a chat with him and if he fancied him, then I’d back Ralph to sort him out. I’d rather we took a gamble on one flair player than not. There was this lad who showed less talent than Boufal and also kept running up blind alleys and making poor decisions.. His name is Nathan Redmond.
If we buy anyone for 50 million all those Chinese money laundering rumours are true and we'll be banned from the Champions League next season!
Apart from his attitude and apptitude, playing with his head up has been the biggest improvement in his play this season (which had started even before Ralph came tbf, but much better now).
Exactly this. Of course keeping Boufal and giving him another go is a bit of a gamble. However, so is every transfer. Considering we have already paid £16m for Boufal he will be a considerably less risky gamble than shelling out another £20m on someone else. Ralph would be foolish to not at least take a look at him.
Agreed FLT, Redmond used to annoy me so much with his often aimless runs into space wherever he found it, often slowing a counter-attack and then looking confused with what to do with it. Redmond, has come on tremendously, he now needs to work on that final touch; be it a shot, pass or cross, it still lets him down at times, but what is best about Redmond is that he seems to be enjoying playing which makes him keep trying. It puts a smile on my face when he beats the ground in frustration when he gets it wrong, because it shows he wants to get it right - always. Much improved attitude to when he seemed fixated with picking arguements with players and referees.
Definitely interesting to see what Ralph could do with him. Good opportunity for Boufal if he wants to return to the most competitive league. He must have seen the improvement from afar. I'll keep an open mind on this one.
