You won't get any sort of decent odds that any of our local MP's, who all oppose leaving, whereas 'The City of Sunderland' voted for just that, will be voted out.

They will trot out the usual claptrap about being proud to represent the people of Sunderland in Parliament, when they are re-elected.
If they had a shred of honesty they would tell us that they will continue to do what they think is right because what us peasants think doesn't matter.

The Labour councillors have been kicked out of Jarrow for the first time and the Independents were voted in. Happy days!

The European Elections are coming up. How are people voting?

    Conservative
    Labour
    Brexit Party
    Lib Dems
    Green
    Change UK
    SNP
    Other?

I'm voting for the Brexit party.

Are you living in Jarrow again? I spoke to the independent representing primrose and he seemed to be on the right side of politics (if that makes sense). Sadly wasn’t able to vote as I was working away but it’s time for a political revolution. The usual two have been a disgrace.

Hey mate, no I'm still in Durham. I bought this house a couple year back and I'm settled here now. I don't think I'll ever go back there tbh.

John Robertson? He used to have his own scaffolding company and drove his truck into the town hall over a contract dispute with the council a while back. For him to be elected shows just how fed up people are of the main two parties.

My heart sank when I woke up to find people had voted to leave, really didn't believe they would.

This situation will actually become much worse, even after a deal, before it gets any better.

Thousands of jobs and businesses will be at risk.

I still believe many people voted simply to stop foreigners coming here rather than for any noble economic reasons.

What a shame we've deliberately landed ourselves with this mess.

I wouldn’t come back. I barely spend any time there due to work but it’s not somewhere I’d want to live forever. There are some nice parts mind you. Everyone knows everybody else and I hate that! Fortunately I’m just viewed with suspicion as nobody knows me. And I have a funny Yorkshire accent ha.

No he was called Paul Milburn. The independents are rinsing the labour party though. It’s a joy to behold!

The whole process reminded me of the American election. It as a case of “we know people won’t vote to leave” and people hear this and, without looking at the reasons and what might happen, think “screw you I’ll vote to leave cis you said that”

Human nature... we don’t like being told “you will vote like this” and I honestly think the way the Torys did it caused the mess we’re now in.

On the other side of that coin... It was an “advisory vote” meaning that the government can reject the result if they wish! Not that that would gain them any kudos in the public’s eyes. I know people who voted to leave who would now vote to stay... but, I also know people who voted to stay who would now vote to leave! Anything could happen

Brexit Party pour moi. I don't want to leave the EU, but neither do I want to watch it subsume individual sovereign nations into subsidiaries of a supranational organisation that no-one in Europe asked for and on which they have not been asked their opinion, much less for their approval via a democratic vote. When we joined the Common Market, as is was then, we thought we were joining a trading bloc. The administrative arm of that bloc has now assumed all of the features of a sovereign state. It has its own head (of state), its own parliament, civil service, bank, Court, currency and police force. It negotiates its own treaties and is opening its own embassies. In fact, the only thing that a sovereign state has that the EU doesn't is a military and it is now busily working to correct that as I write. With the advent of the Euro it is now taking over monetary policy from the Eurozone states, control over interest rates and the money supply being largely governed by the European Central Bank. That process will be completed with a formal banking union in due course. That just leaves fiscal policy for the Eurozone states and we've recently seen the EU flex its muscles with Italy over its last budget and it already has Greece by the budgetary balls. Once the EU starts demanding harmonization of tax rates the game will be up. There simply won't be much else for member states to do, as the EU law machine churns out ever more tightly-drawn regulations.

As Mikhail Gorbachev said: "the most puzzling recent development in politics is the desire of Western politicians to re-create the Soviet Union in Western Europe". I say **** it. The EU should have a major policy re-think and come clean about precisely what its long-term intentions, or rather those of its un-elected Commission, really are...

I keep forgetting about them. They've become irrelevant to me since Tommy Robinson joined up with them.

That would be a betrayal that would cause serious civil unrest in this country. We've already seen the start of extremism with bombs being planted next to train tracks and that's just at the suggestion that Brexit could be cancelled. The government was remain and spent about 10 million quid sending us all leaflets telling us to vote to remain part of the EU and just how special that they were. David Cameron told us that leave would mean leave, they would deliver the result and they'd be no second referendum. What has happened since with remain voters and remain politicians doing everything they can to thwart a fair and democratic vote has been nothing short of disgraceful, imo. If Brexit doesn't happen what is the point in voting again when the ballot box will mean nothing? Will we have been lied to all this time about living in a democratic society?

The idiot went after his 5 minutes of fame and will now lose his job and probably have to do a little bit of jail time. There's a lot of passionate leave voters in Newcastle, who like Farage, that could give him a slap if they see him about, too.

The left wing throwing milkshakes at politicians game needs to stop. They need to allow democracy to happen and stop being such bitches.
