For me, it feels like Klopp has got some amazing performances out of some lesser players. Pep has had to motivate a very good leveled bunch. Thus making Klopps job the harder of the two. But, Liverpool have spent more on wages than City, so maybe that blows my point out the water.
What, mine? That's no where near a title challenging squad! Didn't they finish 7th the season before?
Think Allison was more than that, Coutinho going back a bit Suarez accounts for a fair amount though. Who have City sold? That squad already had Kompany, David Silva, De Bruyne, Fernandinho and Aguero in it before Pep spent a penny on it, and he's spent a fair few himself. Not saying they haven't spent money but Klopp had a far bigger job on his hands and has them performing at a similar level despite having less resources available.
If Klopp and Poch are good enough then they will eventually get the gig at a European superpower to prove themselves fully in time.
I agree entirely. This is also true in other sports of course, where one way or another the amount of money invested often a major factor. But the justification, if there is one, for the vast expenditure on sporting prowess, isn’t just the number of medals or titles or records accumulated, it’s also the raising of standards, skill levels, aesthetic brilliance and a host of other things. I don’t know if the football served up by the likes of Man City and Liverpool this season is the best I’ve ever seen, but it comes pretty damn close. Whether that justifies the money I don’t know, but then I don’t subscribe to Sky TV.
But everyone spends money on sport at the highest level. We didn’t win record numbers of medals in the last few Olympics because our athletes in loads of different events spontaneously got better. It was because of the Lottery funding enabling people to train full-time, eat better diets, afford better coaching, and so on. Money isn’t the only factor, but it can make a huge difference.
The amount that is being spent by individual clubs needs to be regulated and more even in English football paticularly otherwise fans will be losing interest and leaving in droves in years to come IMO.
I agree, a way has to be found to make things more even while still allowing the quality of football to rise.
They are facing off in the CL final. Klopp knocked off Bayern and Barca on the way to this point, Poch knocked off Dortmund and Man City. I honestly don't think that either need to prove themselves much further.
Liverpool aren't a European superpower? CL finalists two years in a row. Champions of Europe 5 times.
If people are going to say that other countries should not host football events for their political stances or problems with racism, I think it is rather sanctimonious given our recent problems.
I must admit I didn't see game yesterday but saw review after game & just now motd. I was expecting to see goal line tech show the exact position of ball but only seen the 2x tv views. Can’t see how anyone can say that was fully over line before Sterling touched it? Very surprised by the FA here. I’d be pretty pissed if I had a stupid zillion accumulator with Sterling getting 3x in final. And with regards to DDublin saying the reason Jesus got it was because it was going over the line makes no sense, unless there’s a rule here?
