Perez has always looked class and had his best season so far, and I guess him staying will be a big factor in Rafa staying.

HOWEVER thats very harsh on Miggy, who fitting straight in and looked awesome when he played and gave us a whole shape and attacking dimension.

    Some non-Newcastle highlights:

1 the Prem being rid of the miserable bastard Mourhinho
2 the Solskjaer revolution backfiring specaularly
    3 Warnock getting relegated
4 Chelsea being a mess once again
5 Mackems not getting automatic promotion

Dummett looks our best defender by quite a stretch these days in my eyes, particularly left side of a back 3. The big advantage he has over Lejeune is pace. He really is impossible to get past. It was noticeable teams were starting to target Lejeune in that regard. Their trick was to suck Ritchie on and then clip it into the space. Lejeune was having real problems. It all started against Wolves when they brought that Costa on. He dicked him a few times and Lejeune was all over the shop, I think teams took note.

For me I would prefer Lejeune and to compete with Lascelles for that central non marking role. He is so good with the ball. Indeed I think Lascelles really looks better when he has a more basic duty of just marking a man. Being brutal whereas a back 3 increases Dummetts appeal ten fold, it probably goes the other way with Lascelles who seems infinitely more comfortable in a 4.

I like Lejeune though and he's our best in possession. He also reads the game well. Schar drives us up the pitch and brings a different dimension. Dummett brings real pace and like Lejeune, a superb reading of the game. To be honest if I was Lascelles, I'd be slightly worried there are 3 better centre backs with me all bringing different things to the table.

You haven't even mentioned Schar either who just ooozes class, hell I think even Fernandez would get in ahead of Lascelles for me now in the formation Rafa seems to prefer now.

I didn't think Dummet was that quick like, maybe next to Lejeune he looks pacey but I've never had him down as a speed demon like.

You'd be surprised mate. When they did the tests a few years ago he was one of the quickest in the league nevermind Newcastle. I'm not making this up! I'm sure they clocked his top speed at nearly 22mph and he was 4th fastest in the league. Just watch when a supposedly quick player tries to do him in a foot race. He never ever loses. Weird because he just doesn't look quick. The likes of Aguero, Sterling, Mane have all tried this season and got no change.

I don't think he'd top acceleration charts or anything but even then his must be pretty decent.

One of the highlights for me on my recent visit to St James was the cleanliness and general state of repair of the toilets.

I don’t know what Chippy was moaning about. Admittedly I only used the urinals but that must have been what he was complaining about surely because who takes a **** at a football match.

Ah that explains it .......... a Mackem.

    For me:
1: Perez and Dummett finally getting some respect
2: Lejuene coming back from injury - subsequent low point was him going down with the other knee
3: Everton and Man City games.
    4: Longstaff coming through

Agreed with WP Schar-Lejuene/Lacselles-Dummett as a back 3 is immense with Fernandez and the Jamal/Florian on the bench and Clark as a reserve.

Because his natural position is left side centre back. Preferably in a 3. It’s not natural to him at all. I can think of some really quick centre half’s who would make average wing back.

He’s a good option at full back and a superb option left side of a back three. We need to invest in both wing backs if we are persisting with this three at the back (I hope we do).

Personally think we can cope for another season with what we have defensively.

Money should be spent on a first team central midfielder, a first team striker (Rondon or otherwise), a good second choice striker and a good bench player to come on instead of either Almiron/Perez

As for Dummett, he should be our 4th centre back or if starting instead of Lascelles as Schar and Lejeune should be the main 2.

If we play 4 I like Dummett at left back. It allows you to have flexibility in the starting side and he is very good there. I think though you then need real flair in front of him who you don’t ask to come back as much because he is a defensive full back. If we play three I’d pick Dummett before anyone else. Just my opinion. Pace, reading of the game, and just a general determination brings so much.

I think Lascelles is most at risk. Lejeune’s is our best with the ball. He is pretty slow but reads the game well like Dummett. Obviously Lejeune got exposed a few times but I think the way round that is to move him into the central role with Dummetts pace helping him. Lascelles is a good option, I’m not down on him like some but the 3 suits him the least out of our 5 centre backs.

My priorities would be holding midfielder to get best from Longstaff. I like that Maia or Ascaibar. Striker (on top of Rondon). I like the idea of that Martinez because it helps Almiron and Rondon because of previous club/national team link - 25m plus though. Then I’d want wing banks. Right would be first as Yedlin and Manquillo drag our level down. They will always be targeted. Ritchie actually does quite well and regardless I’d keep him. He’d offer you competition in quite a few positions. Plus the likes of him and Dummett are crucial with their attitude.

Rafa needs to rein himself on numbers now and huge turnover. We need to concentrate on quality. I’d look at it like spending 100m-120m on 4-5 players over the next 2-3 windows. We can probably recoup 30m from our current squad. That should be doable for mike. I suspect Rafa will want it to happen quicker though. I also think his demands on infrastructure (rightly) will be muddying these contract talks as much as budgets.

I don’t think we would sign 2 strikers even though we should as we would become a far greater threat. Rondon is a funny one because if you buy him you’d have to pretty much pick him. Otherwise he’d just get fat. Which restricts you to buying a back up striker.

Didn't really know where else to post this. I had a client meeting in Newcastle last Wednesday. I've only just started working with the company, although I've been trying for several years. A guy I've known for 15 years and worked with previously at three other companies joined them as COO a few months back and got me through the door. Even though he's a utd season ticket holder, he's a top bloke. I met him and two other women for about 90 minutes. He's already told me I could get my head down at his corporate flat for the night, and we'd go out on the piss in the evening.

After the 'official' meeting was over, he pointed me in the direction of the nearest alehouse, which was called Nancy's Bordello, or something similar. Lot of student halls surrounding it. A pint was a lot more than expected at £4.85, but happy hour kicked in at 4. 00 pm an you get 2 for £5.

He got there at about 5.15 pm and after a swift one, we went back to his gaff which was in the Quayside area? We got changed, and went straight out. He had an old mate meeting us, along with the Legal Counsel at the company - a short, fat Canadian with big gob and Tourett's - Great combination <laugh> We went to a proper boozer on a street just called Side. It was a great, traditional alehouse. He'd talked about going to a pie and mash alehouse for food, but we never made it out of the pub. About half way though the evening, I said I was going out for a fag (really a spliff as I had two pre-skinned) and Norm the Canadian came with me. I was too pissed to care, so just sparked it up. He immediately asked me if it was hash, and proceeded to share the spliff with me. Turned out we shared very similar musical tastes as well. Had a top night, a good kip and he took me for some breakfast at a cafe right under the famous bridge. It looks like New York round there. I then got a taxi to the station, but got the woman to drop me at Wetherspoons for a livener at 8.50 am <laugh> A pint of Carling at the Wetherspoons in Warrington is £1.99. It was £3.35 in there. Not as cheap as I'd expected. A top night, though, and very friendly people across the board. Very like Liverpool in many ways. <ok>
