Got to say having just seen the goal it was very well taken. Think it could have took the keepers head off if it had hit him!! Hope this can give him a bit of a lift, not scoring is always in the back of your head as a striker no matter what your manager tells you.
Your right in what you say, strikers scoring goals = confidence = success I am sure this will do McLean the world of good. I've always rated him and felt he often did a lot of the donkey leg work and set up play for Fryatt but he does need to score more and hopefully we have'nt seen the best from him yet and this can be the spring board he needs, as for saying that I'd like to fancy my chances at volleying the ball into the back of the net from a few yards out.
I'm more impressed by the fact that we were the first side to keep a League clean-sheet at their place since Brighton in October 2010.
He was in the right place at the right time, just think maybe last season that shot would have ended up in the stands or side netting. Only one goal I know, but like you said we havn't seen the best of him yet. Fingers crossed he gets a few more soon. Got to start with him and Waghorn on sat, with Fryatt on the bench. Or will NP suprise us again???
I think given the fact Fryatt made no impact on Saturday after swapping with McLean, NP must reward his strikers with a start that look the most impressive, therefore its a no brainer for me, McLean and Waghorn MUST start. I was also impressed to see that shot Waghorn turned with his back to goal and let loose with a wicked shot which smashed against the bar. Fryatt still needs some thinking time and I can only see competition for places as a bonus for us and NP. Its a nice headache to have, selection dilemas !!!
We just need to sort the home form out, hopefully starting against Portsmouth. Might have a bet on us winning and Mclean to score first.
Waghorn could be a hell of a player for us, big, strong, skillfull, powerful shot.. hardly put a foot wrong. You're a bit harsh on Fryatt, he did quite well. Great finish by Mclean and I would agree go with Waggy & him Saturday.
My concern with F ryatt is the number of times he looks to do the more difficult option and then gets caught in possession. I would like to see him get his head up more and look for his team mates rather than try to manufacture a shot from almost impossible angles. I know all good strikers have a selfish side to their games but 'assists' win games as well!
Have to agree, I've seen him a few times beat his man then the man gets back in position before Fryatt should have off loaded the ball to another player and instead Fryatt will try to beat the same man he just went past and he will lose possession on the second unnecessary attempt.
