Not lying. Our 2nd place and record points shows we've got a squad of the highest quality which guarantees we'll be competing for trophies for years to come. To abandon that for one FA Cup would be madness IMO. Our squad would have to be 27 points worse to have finished 4th. Imagine just how crap that squad would be. We can go into next season confident we can challenge. If we had a 70 point squad we'd just be another #alsoran club still "in transition". Or, let me put it like this: would you swap Alisson, Van Dijk, and Salah (which would then put us somewhere around 4th) for an FA Cup?
Did Leicester's 1st place show the same? You were a distant 4th last season and have had a great (incredible) season this time. There is no guarantee that you can repeat the performance or anything to even indicate it. City have a bit of form built up now as they have repeated the performance two seasons on the trot, Spurs are looking like they could step up further, next season is a whole new start.
Nonsense comparison. It's obvious to anyone that our squad is quality and not based on circumstance like Leicester. Last year we only came 4th but our performance after signing van Dijk was title-challenging, and we have made the CL final two years in a row. If you genuinely think we're Leicester you have a surprising and disappointing few years ahead of you
Serious question with possible (not expected) out comes. If the spuds win the CL and Arsenal win the EL which teams would have had the best seasons and be remembered in the record books, which supporters will have something to sing about next season. City, PL trophy and CL qualification Spurs, CL trophy and CL qualification Arsenal, EL trophy and CL qualification Liverpool CL qualification Chelsea CL qualification Purely hypothetical (but possible) results but what would be your opinion on the achievements?
Yes, yes you have done that What makes you think you can have the same consistency in the league again though? To an extent the CL is much about Who you are drawn against and if they show up, the league is more fixed (less of a lottery) than that.
Winning a trophy is a more successful season, obviously. Your scenario is easy; Man City won the league, the best trophy a English club can win. Potentially with two domestic cups alongside it too. Man City, Arsenal and Spurs will all have gaf a better season than us as a result. Would I swap ours with them though? Not a chance. Chelsea winning the EL and Spurs winning the CL would have been a better scenario... Spurs finish fourth and win CL Or Chelsea finish third and win EL. Spurs' season would be better because it's a higher rated trophy. Nothing between second and fourth in the league.
Liverpool: Unbeaten at home in the PL since 23 April 2017 #consistency Man Utd: Unbeaten at home in the PL since Sunday
I put Arsenal as winning the EL because it then gives them CL qualification the same as Chelsea and the others. It was meant to show what can be considered a successful season (and also recorded in the record books) that some people seem to look down on.
In reality, what others do is actually irrelevant. It's about our own expectations and achieving them. Are we happy with our season irrespective of the CL final outcome? Damn right we are!
Of course you are, so would I be if we got anywhere near that. I just hate it when some try to belittle others achievements when they actually got something to show for it.
You've just contradicted yourself in the same post. You've basically argued transition and how crap it would be whilst also saying you could've got to the FA Cup Final and CL Final last season and still have finished 2nd with 97 points this season.
Go back and read what you've written. Actually here you are... To abandon that for one FA Cup would be madness IMO. Our squad would have to be 27 points worse to have finished 4th. Imagine just how crap that squad would be. You finished 25 points behind last season to finish 4th. So how would you have abandoned anything for an FA Cup when this season you did finish 2nd place and record points shows we've got a squad of the highest quality which guarantees we'll be competing for trophies for years to come. Your argument falls apart mate.
We went out of the FA Cup in January in the last two seasons. It didn't affect us in either one. So to make the FA Cup final this season we would have had to divert resouces from the PL and CL. Last season's squad finishing 4th was a false position due to injuries and wanting to focus on the CL run. That's fair enough, but this season's squad was more settled and stronger, so for us to finish 4th this season would be an absolute disgrace and would have to be a sign of something badly wrong a the club. I wouldn't trade that for a single FA Cup, because I think this squad is going to aim (and probably achieve) far higher than that in the coming seasons anyway. This is like deal or no deal, where the last two boxes left are 1 million (CL) and 750k (PL), and the banker asks if you want to deal for 50k (FA Cup). GTF.
